I have nothing against the guy. And as you should know Idzik was also a personnel guy. Why interview a guy when you just fired a guy after only 2 seasons from the same organization. Plus just a few days ago Schnider their boss gave Idzik a vote of confidence and said he should get more time and be able to hire his own head coach. This guy has minimal experience and was recently name head of Player Personnel. After Woody's presser etc I'm getting déjà by all over again.
One thing I have noticed whenever reading about GM interviews. Not tons, but some. 1.) Whenever a successful GM takes up for a team he tells the owner exactly whats WRONG with the team 2.) He has a record that shows he has some balls, like drafting a player nobody else wanted or being responsible for a trade that could have cost him his job
Just interviewing this guy (nothing against him) tells me what I thought during Woody's presser: that he's confused and doesn't know what he's doing. His judgment is laughable. But he insists on bring in charge. The circus isn't leaving with Rex.
Evidently, we all knew Idzik was a cap guy, we just weren't sure how much of a personnel background guy he was. We all assumed he'd do well since he came from Seattle. This guy actually seems to have a personnel background history.
Absolutely no reason not to look at the guy because that is also where Idzik came from. They are nothing alike and Idzik was a very very strange dude. Idzik was like our 15th choice because of Woody's demand to keep Rex. Im all for listening to what this guy has to say.
I have to admit that, if the Jets really want and get Quinn, to also get Kirschner. History of working together, probably already on the same page. Honestly, we could do A LOT worse.
Seems like a very interesting candidate that was ran out of town due to an owner relationship with Baalke who now chose Baalke over Harbaugh again. McLoughan drafted Willis, Joe Staley, Vernon Davis, Frank Gore, Ahmad Brooks, Dashon Goldson, Crabtree and Ray McDonald still on their roster. Signed Justin Smith. Not on the roster but still decent players in the NFL: Manny Lawson, Parys Haralson, Delanie Walker, Michael Robinson, Adam Snyder, Alex Smith and David Baas. All in a short four year stint as GM of the 9ers from 2005-2009.
i think he's worth the look. i like the former GM experience, and had a good track record at that. wasn't fired for making bad moves or anything like that. DeCosta and Ballard still top my list.
Eric Decosta is my top choice, and it's not even close, but I just don't see him leaving the Ravens organization (seems he's loyal, and will wait until Ozzie steps down, and take over). Unless Decosta is tired of waiting, who knows.
DeCosta would re-energize me with some much needed optimism. top choice by far. would be a dream move, but you are right, its probably just dreamin.. that's where i'd throw a boatload of cash if i'm woody.. .. make him think about it.
Idzik was only a cap guy, Woody wants to hire a new GM with personnel and scouting background, and Kirschner is the righ-hand man of Seahawks GM.
I don't see DeCosta leaving. I'm not really sure who of the existing candidates I would prefer, I hope we don't go the college route though.
DeCosta would also be at the top of my list, but he'd need to have free reign to hire/fire his own people, including the HC. From the presser, it isn't entirely clear whether that particular ability (although the GM and HC are, supposedly, going to be on the same page). This signals that, at least this point, Johnson is most likely targeting Quinn and Kirschner. But it's all tea leaves in a broth of shit stew right now.
The thing that you have to like about De Costa and what he has probably learned from Ozzie Newsome is that the Ravens draft football players straight up regardless of height, weight, combine speed or anythint. There's no secret measurable that they look at and Newsome has gone on record saying that he simply drafts football players on film. http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/story/...s-roster-shows-brilliance-of-gm-ozzie-newsome Good article on him and what we'd hope to expect from DeCosta if acquired. It should be noted though that they almost always go defense first and fill in the rest after.
