Ok, those guys listed might be ok. Do you give them more than two years even if you personally don't like their draft picks or FA signings. Despite the fact that after both Idzik drafts he got satisfactory to good grades. Or do you fire them, too. And don't forget he can't choose his head coach and has to keep the majority of the front office even if they don't like working with him and complain about his style. And leak info to the press who are hostile. And then what if the coach who might even have more power than he does has a 3-13 and you get blamed for it. Then you have GM number 4 in four years.
That goes back to what I've said before and that it takes time to judge a draft. Idzik has done some good things too imo.
Again, man, you are trying too hard. Chris Ivory is one of the best running backs in the NFL, his stats are greatly diminished by the fact that he splits carries with CJ and Powell, and because defenses load the box against us, disrespecting our passing game, but the guy still has one of the highest yards after contact in the league. He's like a battering ram that refuses to go down, and takes multiple tacklers to bring down every single play, while still having really good speed and moves in open space. Greene was a backup at best, able to pick up some yards if the O-Line created a massive hole, but bringing nothing beyond that. No speed, no moves, not nearly as hard a runner as Ivory. Holmes in 2013 had 23 receptions, Decker this year in our anemic passing game with our QBs has 64 already, before the final game tomorrow. This is a wash production-wise? And Amaro is clearly a superior TE to Cumberland. He is bigger, runs better routes, gets open more, has better hands, and picks up yards after catch way better. If we focused him more this year, instead of ignoring him in large stretches, he could've had a dominant year. As it is, he still leads all rookie TEs and is on pace for a very good year by historical standards for TEs. Need I bring up Harvin against Stephen Hill?
You feel the Jets Oline has been addressed?! this is hardly an above average line. the OG spots are garbage and the tackles are "meh". He addressed the oline with one guy who was a turnstile and the other is slightly better Talk about needing to try too hard: the attempt at making the jets offense seem formidable. Reading your arguments is like watching the Jets play: the sum is about the same than the parts--underwhelming...
so basically, you're saying that after failing in the offseason and draft--two worthless FA signings not counting Decker and three worthless draft picks--to bring a quality speed WR, the GM should be lauded for bringing in a high-priced rental AFTER THE SEASON WAS LOST?! getthefuckouttahea with that noise!!
He drafted 3 oline players in 2013, drafted another guy in 2014. Plus he brought in Colon and Giacomini. Winters has struggled but the book isn't written on him yet, Aboushi has been solid, Campbell didn't pan out but shit happens, and Dozier is promising.
So, it's ok for Idzik to bring in overpriced vets when it suits your argument, yet bad that Tannenbaum did so? Basically, he brought in a high-priced rental only after all the other moves failed miserably. and only after the Jets were out of playoff contention. It was a desperate move that guys with "plans" don't make. He's a guy who got a whiff of what everyone else could smell...and he make a panic move. Dozier is promising? So a "promising" guy is still on the bench while a penalty machine like Colon is playing every snap on a 3-12 team?! c'mon man. The book has been written on Winters: turnstile. WTF are you watching? "he drafted 3 oline players in 2013..." and none of them have been shown to be particularly good. Colon and Giacomini are sub-par, one's a penalty machine and the other makes people miss Howard. Neither is close to being pro-bowl quality. When it mattered, the Jets line either gave up sacks or took penalties...please stop praising it. the fucking offense is garbage and the oline is a BIG reason why. Please. stop putting lipstick on this pig.
I guess you expect 7th round picks and supplemental guys to be Pro Bowlers their first year. Or are they developmental players some of whom will someday make your active roster. So there's no definite report card yet on the 2014 draft. As for 2013. So far it looks like a pretty good draft.
Because players don't improve right? That's why I said the book isn't written on Winters. So you have to be a pro bowler to be productive? That makes no sense. Aboushi sat on the bench last year and played 0 snaps and now he's probably going to be our starting guard of the future. Dozier looked promising in preseason and could possibly take over the other guard spot.
Decent starting CB when healthy. Check. Dominant defensive lineman. Check. Starting offensive guard. Check. Starting full back. Check. Plus the jury is still out on Winters and Geno. So far the 2013 draft is shaping up to be solid.
It's difficult for an offense to be formidable when your HC wants to go ground-and-pound and your OC wants to go West Coast, and your QB is rated the worst in the league or around there. Nothing to do with the quality of weapons on offense, so not sure what your point is. Idzik brought in Harvin when he became available for a good price. Seattle only decided to trade him after the season started, not during the offseason, and wanted more for him at first, and Idzik smartly held out, until the price became very good. And that's when he got him. I know this is hard for you backseat drivers to understand but unlike Madden NFL, he can't just wave a magic wand and get whoever he wants whenever he wants. He can only make moves when they become available. Harvin is 26, a very talented player, and not overpriced. After this season he is not owed any guaranteed money. So either that will be used as leverage to get him to sign a cheaper contract than 10m per year, or they can keep him as is, but without being locked in into anything. If latter is the case, whenever they feel like they can use that money better in some way, they can just cut him without any problems. Tanenbaum gave out multi-year guaranteed contracts to bad players that locked the team into a bad salary cap situation. Sanchez, over-the-hill Holmes, Harris, etc. Once it became clear that Sanchez and Holmes were bad for example, the Jets couldn't just cut them, they had to keep them on the team until their contracts ran out. Completely different situation with Harvin. Dozier was a tackle in college, now they are training him to be a guard in the NFL. Same thing happened with Aboushi last year. They red-shirt them for the year and let them practice their new positions.
What do we have on these guys? I know who McClay is but past that, no idea. I hope all of these guys are prepared to execute a one-year plan because you don't get any more than that in the city.
The 2014 draft was filled with Supplemental players and the picks are not tradable. To me Idzik should have bundled a few of his regular picks and tried to make deals on draft day: trading up or trading them back into 2015. This is what the Patriots often do. But then again 2014 was supposed to be a very deep draft and some guys in the later rounds had good draft grades higher than their selection. The fact is that almost every guy if not every guy the Jets selected is still in the NFL. Including Jalen Saunders. Why they cut him after he dropped a punt. I don't know. But he was on a practice squad and available to other teams until just recently when the Saints purchased his contract. I was surprised that Idzik chose all 12 players. And there is almost no way a dozen guys are going to make this team in one year. Right now it looks like a poor draft because of Pryor. But if he turns it around and Amaro progresses and a few of the other guys have good NFL careers with the Jets or on other teams the grade on this draft will be a passing one.
Intriguing GM possibility for the Jets: Chiefs executive Chris Ballard. Feeling is Bears might be his top choice though. #nyj From Manish
It does take time and he cut a good amount of picks in 2014 - so he gave up on a lot of players too early. Did you see Saunders run 99 yards from a kickoff? Did we even have someone return a kick back for a TD this season? I don't like the selections in 2013 and 2014. He didn't do a good job in the past 2 drafts. I give him credit for Sheldon Richardson and Jace Amaro but that's it out of what 20 picks? The negatives easily outweigh the positives. He's an awful GM and it's time to upgrade. He's got to go and we need a GM / HC package that has the same vision.
With 12 picks not all of them would make the team and only 2 players got flat out cut. Some others were pouched off our practice squad. I disagreed with Idzik cutting Saunders myself. It takes a few years to judge a draft you gives seem to not get that. I mean in a perfect world we'd love if all draft picks were all pro Canton bound players. But in the real world some draft picks don't pan out, or some need time.
