was actually referring to his size when i called him a house... he looks very big out there IMO... and fred jackson is more of an animal then a house lol very good runner, were def going to need to tackle better and getting a push up front to stop this guy... the bye week should provide some much needed rest
Apparently you didn't watch him play at all last season. He IS a house. You can bring up stats all you want, but that's no substitute for watching the way he pounds the rock. And Jackson isn't a house. He's an RV. Dude's got wheels.
The defense overall looks much better with Ellis in there. There was a notable drop off when he left with the injury yesterday, and it wasn't until the 2nd half that our defense recovered.
Tolbert is averaging 2.9 yards a carry in the 10 games before yesterday and then he rips the Jets. Seriously, he's not that good a runner right now but you don't have to be if you play the Jets. Just showing up is worth yards. If you're actually good it's worth a lot of yards.
You need to realize that with Mathews' emergence, Tolbert has been seeing primarily goalline and short yardage carries this season. That's bound to drop anyone's average considerably. That's why I brought up last year when he served as the primary ball carrier and simply destroyed the LOS on less obvious rushing downs. Again, stats only tell so much. I've watched him play a number of times.
exactly... tolbert is a guy who wont get a lot of yardage, but will run ppl over and get those key short yardage conversions... very hard to tackle... loved how smith came up and annihilated him on that one play... all coverage woes aside, smith can really lay the smackdown
^^^Just as an example, in the Miami game, 4 of his 6 carries came in the Red Zone with a stacked up defense. In the open field, he averaged 6 YPC and contributed 5 catches for 51 yards. Against New England, 6 of his 9 carries came in obvious short yardage rushing situations and in the red zone. Obviously New England's red zone defense with that fat middle is imposing as hell.
Exactly. When he's given a bigger load between the 20s (really between the 10s), he's a very effective runner. Anyone who watched him last season saw that.
