RJF Erdogan isn't as slow as you think. He is already a dictator in real life but for the past 3 years he is becoming a dictator on the internet as well. 3 years ago when he realized opposition was organizing against him on twitter, his party hired thousands of people and put them under payroll. Their only job is to to defend him on twitter. There are more than 10 thousand of these people and they can make any topic trend topic on twitter. He also has his propaganda team who writes to defend him on international newspapers like NY Times, Guardian etc. He already crushed the opposition in Turkey. Everybody who opposes him is in the jail. The rest are too scared to talk. Now what he is doing is he is trying to silence people like me who are overseas and opposing him. They want to crack our passwords, crack our identity and arrest us when we step foot in Turkey. This exact thing happened to my friend 2 years ago. He is a dual citizen of America/Turkey and he was arrested the day he and his American girlfriend stepped foot in the airport. His girlfriend was released and he was arrested. Of course thanks to American Embassy he was released in 24 hours but he had to go to Turkey many times to defend himself in court. Now, am I scared of this dictator? I am not. But I want justice. He attempted to invade my privacy. And he purchased services from an American IT company to do that. What are my rights as an American citizen? That's what I am trying to understand.
Like with anything else, you can sue if you find a lawyer willing to take your case. As to being afraid to step onto Turkish soil - you can always renounce citizenship if necessary.
Odds are you are screwed if you want to sue the Turkish government. Suing the American company might be easier, but can you actually prove there have been any damages?
No damages yet. There is just an attempt to invasion of my privacy to be able to bring charges against me in Turkey. I did nothing wrong. All I said was he should stop acting like a dictator. Nothing more. But the judiciary system in Turkey is a joke. If you are going against president, you are in jail for a loooong time. I trust being a US Citizen and for now that's my only protection.
Turns out, Stokes is our only lawyer on TGG. @Petrozza and @Cman60 and @Royal Tee It turns out Stokes is truly my only free source on this. I kindly ask you to consider the situation and see if he can come back from his vacation sooner. Thanks for your kind consideration.
Damn you beat me to it. yes yes, the country that is willing to spend a bunch of money in order to arrest you when you are forced to go back at some point by your job is going to be quaking in their boots. youre fucked, amcik
I already asked you. You've got no damages so you have zero shot of a civil case and a pretty non-existent chance of a case in America to sue the leader of Turkey. You've got no case.
Nah, not true at all. Turns out not many lawyers want to offer free legal advice to a loud Muslim on a public message board about pressing charges against the president of a radical country that just had a military coup.
Thanks. So the key word here is "damages". Until I somehow get arrested in Turkey, I can't do anything to the company providing services to Turkish government. Sorry for missing your earlier reply. You are making a great point byz. I am moving on.
