We obviously don’t know, but I believe he will play for more than just 2023 for various reasons…first, I’m assuming that the Jets and him talked about this before agreeing to the deal, otherwise I’m assuming there would have been some consideration in the trade about it…I know they discussing some picks back, and the fact that JD caved on that indicates that he probably believes he’ll get more than just 2023. Second, there’s just too much money in the deal afterwards…I get that Rodgers probably already has more money then he’ll ever need, but you don’t just walk away from that much cash … I also get that Rodgers is a unique dude and sure he CAN walk away and never miss the money, but I just don’t see it. Again, all speculation of course, but I personally believe we’ll get this season and next, and then after that who knows…
of course it will be restructured. As it sits right now he’s set up that he has to play next year or he’s only going to get the less than 2m he’s getting this year. Obviously next year’s restructure will spread the hit over more years and pay him out when he does retire, but if he retires before next season he’s going to be walking away from huge money. That’s the point of why it’s structured the way it is right now.
Jesus. Hackett seems freakin' great. What the hell is going on around here? My Broncos fan cousin in Denver doesn't like him since last season was a dumpster fire in Denver, but Hackett appears to be the classic case of a guy promoted one level beyond his sweet spot. I think it's going to work out very well, and while we roasted his dad years ago (that what fans do to their offensive coordinators) I love how Hackett holds the Jets close to his heart and has fond memories of the 41-0 game etc. Who doesn't like hearing him mention Jerald Sowell, Wayne Chrebet, etc? I feel like this past two weeks was an entire, enjoyable season already. Well, we have had worse.
The year in Denver was an aberration and complete train wreck between Hack’s moving up to the HC role, instituting his game plan and prima Donna Wilson complete unwillingness to adjust to anything but his style of play. I do not consider than year a good data point to see what he can do with this team as a OC. We shall see how well Wilson performs under a seasoned HC. My gut says at best middle of the road. He provides no flexibility whats so ever to improve a team offense.
rodgers won back to back MVPs with hackett as his OC. I think hackett may be one of those really good coordinators but not good at being a head coach

No. It's structured the way it is now because that's what Green Bay required to make the deal happen. The current contract will be redone before he ever takes a snap as a NY Jet - it won't wait until next year. Where's that "guarantee" you were talking about?
I'll be interested to see if they will let him do any postgame press conferences. I know they didn't make a fuss when he was hired because all the questions would have been about Rodgers. But now there's just a puff piece on NYJ.com.
Hate is a destructive emotion. The sooner all you guys realize that, the better off you'll all be. That doesn't mean I don't hate all the bullshit that gets posted here - we'd all be better off without that.
Rodgers and Hackett I like their resume together. Sure no Super Bowls but a lot of wins, and perhaps we can change the no super bowls argument with our current roster.
Fair enough, but just for the sake of argument: any chance it does not get done? Secondly, as it currently stands does Green Bay owe Rodgers $59 million come June 1st? I'll admit I've no idea what the story is with Rogers' $$$, contract, etc...
To make the trade work his contract was restructured. Currently Rodgers is set to earn 1.2 million in 2023. Otherwise we would have been about 30 million over the cap. We've pushed 104 million into the future, with about 60 million in guaranteed money. He salary in 2024 is currently 104 million, which we expect to rework sometime before the next cap deadline (March). The sooner we rework this contract the better as we are currently 40 million over the cap in 2024 from just the 34 contracts carrying over. The reason the sooner the better is the rework is optional so Rodgers has extreme leverage over us ATM. If he declined we'd have to cut him and incur the 60 million in deadcap for 2024. JD has been optimistic that the reworked contract will happen like we need it.
