Guys guys, the Jets would be an 0-3 team if they didn't score all those points and let all those other teams always score. /fuckingretard
I think you missed his point. Where was Joe's criticism when the team was a perennial pile of shit? Where was Joe's criticism when the team was mediocre and full of excuses for everything? Rex has taken the team deep in the playoffs two years in a row. We missed a trip to the Super Bowl by a handful of points. He's already the second best coach in Jets history. He doesn't need this shit if his sub-par predecessors weren't getting it.
Exactly. With all due respect to Joe Namath and others, I don't recall hearing a peep during the "pick your nose" Joe Walton Days or Rich Kotite or Neil O'Donnell. That is when the franchise and the fanbase needed some respected Jets to step up and rightfully be critical of the team. What Joe should have done was written a small note to Mark Sanchez: "Dear Mark - You took some pretty good lumps in Oakland this past Sunday. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us, myself included. The most important thing is don't give the Raiders or anyone else the satisfaction of knowing it hurt. Get ready next week and pick the team up with inspired play against a great Ravens team. The test of leadership is not how you perform after a win, but how you rally the team coming off a loss. Regards, Joe Namath" Unfortunately Joe didn't go that route and I lost a lot of respect for him.
Give me an effing break. You are totally clueless. Joe wants the Jets to win and is spot on. If you knew anything about football, and have been paying attention, you'd see that he is right. The team shows up unprepared too often, flat, and hasn't been playing well at all this year.
Joe was too busy getting sauced to criticize the team then. Maybe the JETS should spend less time worrying about Namath and putting their own sorry house in order.
What an idiotic perspective. Do you not think the team was criticized in the past for sucking? Did you miss those rich kotite, bruce coslet, pete carroll pressers? LOL. When the Jets sucked, the coaches were crucified. And appropriately so. The absurd notion that Namath or anybody else is not allowed to critique the current overrated bunch just because they didn't pile on rich kotite is totally moronic. This team is playing poorly. Namath was correct. And if guys want to whine about it that just reveals their own lack of character. I would cut slauson for being a pussy tomorrow.
Dude. You're the one whining. Badger has a fucking point. I'm assuming you're a big fan of this team, right? We've been in the championship game the last two years in a row. I'm 34. I've seen a lot of fucking losing. 6-10 or 7-9 used to be a decent year for us. Reading tonight game thread (which I usually don't do) made it crystal fucking clear a lot of people of this board don't know what it's like to sometime suck. My point is....where was Joe's sanctimonious mouth when we sucked for years, and years, and years, AND YEARS?? Where was it. Losing was acceptable when he was wasted and getting laid? How the fuck does anyone know what goes on at their practices??? That's what I'd like to know. How do you know he doesn't chew their asses out 24/7? Do you?
dude, if you want to defend the players whining about people making legit comments about their poor performance - then that is up to you. To me this is just players whining and making excuses. If you want to also make excuses and blame Joe Namath that is your poor choice. The fact is that this team is playing like crap and people are correct to criticize the team for playing like crap. Matt Slauson sucked last night. He repeatedly screwed up. He is no position to complain about Joe Namath or anybody else correctly pointing out that this team believes its own hype and is not playing football.
This thread is about Joe Namath bashing the franchise, not anyone else. I could care less about what Joe has to say. Hell, I could care less about what Matt Slauson says in return. The thread is about Namath's comments, not anyone else's, and I happen to agree with Badger. I'll say it again. I'm 34. I don't remember Joe saying a fucking word about the Jets until now. Considering THIS thread is about Joe Namath and no one else, I want to know where Joe's mouth was during the Kotite, Coslet, late Walton years that you yourself pointed out. Joe was too busy getting wasted and not giving a shit. Hell, Joe told Suzy Kolber he "couldn't care less about the Jets" right before he embarrassed himself on National TV, right? Oh, and to make that even better, we were getting destroyed by Patriots that night. Yeah, have another Johnnie Red. Where was all this sanctimonious bullshit when the team was 3-13 or 4-12 or 6-10? We make the AFCCG 2 years in a row and now he says something? That's kind of dubious, in my eyes. I'm not defending the team's play at all, they've looked out of sorts and mediocre, but this thread is about what Namath said, no one else.
Seems like Namath was right to say what he said. Yet all the homers here want to talk about how old he is, how he used to drink too much, blah blah blah. How about the Jets play better? I am sure Joe will notice if and when they do. Watch.
I said last week that we need to wait and see what happens by Game 5. I said if we're 4-1 by then, Ryan can tell Namath to STFU. But if we're 2-3 by then, maybe Joe has a point. Looks like maybe Joe's going to have a point.
Another Slow Start And as I pointed out in another thread, did anyone take notice that we didn't make a 1st down until 10 seconds left in the 1st quarter? After 14.50 minutes of play, we finally convert on 3rd down. This shit is getting old.
I doubt it, and I couldn't care less if he does. If my opinion on this matter makes me a "homer" then so be it. All those years of losing and mediocrity and he never opened his fucking yap once. I wasn't alive for SBIII, but I certainly respect the fact our franchise wouldn't have a Championship without his play, but imo, his timing is weird. I've already said this, but no one outside of the coaches and players know what goes on at practice. The reporters don't even know. He might screaming at them the whole practice. How does Namath or anyone know that?
Remember one thing about Namath though,,, recently he's been given a show on Sirius Radio, etc.... He's been given outlets the last year or so that he didn't have before.
I think a pretty good gauge of how well a team practices, and by that I mean how EFFECTIVELY a team practices, and prepares for an opponent, and is coached by their CS, can be seen in how well they play the game. I know this might be controversial to some here, but there you have it. So, if Namath, like all of us, sees the Jets play poorly in a game, maybe he's not in a great position to say what actually goes on in practice. But I think he can see as well as you and I that the Jets are not playing very well right now. And just to be really provocative, he'd probably say that even if he attended every practice and every meeting. And I am really going out on a limb here, but wtf, I probably would, too.
