BTW the Jets have played poorly this season. Poor performances in wks 1 and 3. Namath's analysis of the situation seems to have been pretty fucking accurate. Hopefully they get it together against the Ravens.

Did Joe have anything to say during the Kotite era? I'm too young to really remember it so I'm genuinely curious. I don't even remember Namath being this critical (if at all) of Herm or Mangini.

Don't remember any comments from Namath concerning the Jets during the pre-Rex era. I would've loved to hear him rip the team during the Kotite years. There were some Coslet & Mangini years where could've stepped up and commented also.

He looks like an old fool that's just riding the anti-Rex wave & enjoying his new media relevance now that people care about the Jets again. Over-confidence means unprepared .... don't remember him making those stupid comments as the Jets were winning road games in the playoffs the last couple years.

If you paid attention to anything other than this comment by Namath, you would say he's a 'testicle washing homer' for the Jets.

But since he says something critical a couple of times a year- HE IS DEAD TO ME.

Too busy drinking and whoring back then. Didn't have time to worry about the Jets.

    Edited for PC reasons
Now he's just a limp dick old dude who can't drink anymore. Those guys are almost always unhappy and looking for something to vent about.

    Well stated.

I find it funny when comments are made about Sanchez's GQ photo spreads.

Namath simply owned NY back then. He had swagger before there was such a thing. He made football sexy.
I just turned 57 and Namath was the sole reason I fell in love with football and the NY fucking Jets.

I don't give a shit how many bad balls he threw in his notable career.
I don't give a shit how many dumb comments he makes.

He'll always be the player that represents the NY Jets to me as long as he's alive.

Sanchez has big cleats to fill.

Just so my previous post doesn't sound like treacly, nostalgic ramblings...

I really liked Richard Todd too.

I will not lower myself and call Broadway Joe Namath a nasty name. I will say that his opinion is wrong. He knows what Rex is all about. He knew what Rex was all about once he came over here.

He also knows where Rex gets it from because Buddy was the defensive coach for his Super Bowl III winning side against the Colts of Baltimore. But it also goes to show that Namath does care about the Jets.

I don't think he is looking to keep his legacy going after all these years the team is trying to get back to the Super Bowl. That will never go away. He wants Sanchez to do well and the team finally getting back to the Super Bowl.

We agree that he is being negative on Rex, but we don't have to lower ourselves and call Broadway Joe nasty names. If he didn't say these things, he wouldn't care about the Jets.

The Jets have played like crap in 2 out of 3 games this season. Rex's vaunted D just got its collective arse handed to it by Oaktown. The ground and pound has been shut down. Basically the Jets are playing like GARBAGE. And if they don't wake up they are going to get stomped by the Ravens.

Some of the not so smart homers here simply can't handle the truth. Namath's assessment was unfortunately right on the money. If the Jets don't like it they shouldn't get lit up by Run DMC like Christmas time in Hollis, Queens. Best way to shut up criticism is to go out and do your Fng Job and win a damn football game.

Very true, but its not the Jets who are complaining, its some of the posters here. Other than Rex' initial comments, I have not heard one word out of the Jets, other than to say they train & prepare very well

I generally agree, however I just heard Slauson on Sirius NFL talking a little smack on Namath. Slauson needs to stop worrying about what retired legends are saying on the radio and focus on not getting his ass kicked and his QB's nose broken. Shut yer pie hole and get to work Matt.

"Thank you so much for everything you did Joe, winning us our first and only super bowl, really putting the frachise on the map, and making the Jets who we are today.

But... if you could please shut your old ass mouth and fade away into the history books so we can play some distraction free football I would really appreciate it, thanks."
