true. But in most cases, the topic could facilitate a decent football conversation. Unless the thread takes the "Cimini is a fucktard" turn for the worse.
So he made the team believe they were better than they were? Interesting that he has an issue with that tactic today.
The Skins have Joe Theisman, Cowboys have Aikman & Irvin, Eagles have Joworski, & Giants have Banks & Carson. Many historical teams have former players speak out about the franchise. Do they often overstep their boundaries and say things to get a reaction? yes. But we should be happy that the Jets have former players that still CARE about the franchise enough to critique them in the media. That creates a level of tradition, family and frankly accountability.
Just to be clear, on a message board, we share thoughts and ideas? Or Do we use our thoughts and ideas to beat them over other peoples heads with some completely false sense of superiority? Curious..................
Are you kidding me??? Dealing with junc is pointless. If you read my post you would understand that was what I was saying, and have always said about him. And what is this thread about anyway? How great Tom Brady would have been in the sixties? How can someone hijack a thread when it's about nothing?
Theisman might be dumber than Bradshaw. Those 2 debating each other would be like having a spelling bee at special ed.
I don't give a shit what you think about nyjunc. this thread is about Namath commenting on how Rex Ryan coaches the players, not a Clint Eastwood fap session.... I understand threads tend to get off track here and there, but you were looking to intentionally hijack it. I looked past it once earlier in the thread, you won't get a second chance, BB.
They can take Clint's fap section here, it would be most welcome don't you think? The Ultimate Clint Eastwood Quote thread!
About 5 years ago on a Sunday morning when I was either looking at porn watching the ESPN NFL preview or taking a nap, these young well-dressed guys show up at my front door wearing white shirts and skinny black ties. They handed me a pamphlet called the watchtower and tried to engage me in a discussion about the bible. They had this glazed look in their eyes like they were in some hypnotic trance. After about 10 minutes when I figured they weren't going to politely leave, I told them to get the F off my property and never come back again. I than went back and either took a nap, watched porn or NFL today. Admittedly I couldn't hang.
Well, this has been a "Joe Namath is a Fucktard' thread. You might at least be consistent and call him a fucktard when he says something good about the Jets, which he does 99% of the time. After all, a fucktard is a fucktard. Let's just try to be consistent.
Good write-up on Namath and the prediction: http://sports.jrank.org/pages/3404/Namath-Joe-Guarantee-Super-Bowl-III.html Joe Namath - The Guarantee And Super Bowl III After his record setting performance in 1967, Namath followed with a more conservative approach that had sportswriters scratching their heads. With a more complete supporting cast the Jets were poised to make a run for the Super Bowl. The game, a new phenomenon resulting from an agreement between the two leagues to match their two best teams in a battle for bragging rights, was the first step toward their eventual merger. The AFL, however, was considered the lesser league because of its wide-open style of play and characters like Namath. The league had suffered defeats in both of the previous Super Bowls to Lombardi's Packers and with Namath's Jets pitted against the ultraconservative powerhouse Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III it was widely considered a fore-gone conclusion. The Colts, with crewcut quarterback Johnny Unitas, represented the old NFL and the Jets with their young brash quarterback, the flashier AFL. Namath, frustrated with the lack of respect given to his team, guaranteed a victory before the game. "I try to explain that it wasn't an arrogant line, it was an angry one," Namath has said. "I was at the Miami Touchdown Club dinner at the Miami Springs Villa, and I was up at the mike, and someone yelled something nasty from the back and I said, 'Wait a minute, let's hold on. You Baltimore guys have been talking all week, but I've got news for you, buddy. We're gonna win the game. I guarantee it.'" The quote set off a media storm and the stage for what has become one of the most memorable Super Bowls in the game's history. The Jets made good on Namath's promise picking apart the Colts for a 16-7 victory in which he completed seventeen of twenty-eight passes for 206 yards. His offense dominated the Colts and the defense sealed the victory intercepting the Colts three times in the first half. The image of "Broadway Joe" trotting off the field after his team's shocking victory would be forever burned into the memories of football fans everywhere. "I got letters from a lot of high school coaches who told me they used the game as a motivator," Namath said. "Maybe it motivated some other people, too. There are a lot of underdogs in the world. Maybe it meant something to the underdogs in life."
