The top sack guys today like the top sack guys throughout NFL history were all speed guys.

    Top guys today:

    John Abraham-256Lbs
    Demarcus Ware-247Lbs
    Clay Mathews-255Lbs
    Harrison-242
    Suggs-260

    Top guys of all time
Reggie White-290-305 at the end 85-2000
    Lawrence Taylor-243 81-93
    Kevin Greene-247-85-99
    Bruce Smith-262-85-99
    Deacon Jones-272-61-74
    Coy Bacon-270-68-81
    Al Baker-265-78-1990
    Jack Youngblood-247-71-84
    Gino Marchetti-244-52-66
    AFL Era
    Gerry Philbin 245-64-73
    Ben Davidson 275 61-71
    Jerry Mays 252 62-70
    Verlon Biggs 275 65-74

The fact is that you never saw the top guys in the past, you don't even know the rule changes which significantly changed the game in favor of the QB today and you are simply wrong about the bigger stronger guys of today who are actually hitting the QB today vs. the past.

The difference today is mostly in the interior line and at the skill position. The difference today is OL men can fully extend their arms so pass rushers have been moved from the DE spot to OLB and bigger interior lineman engage the bigger OL men whos arms are extended. The difference for the QB today is the Hash marks have been moved in meaning they can spread out the D and get the ball out to much more open space to many more options much quicker than they could when Hash marks were set out wide and the O was often pinned close to one sideline.

You take all those Facts into account and along with the new rules on going to the head with either the helmet or your hands and it's clear your simply making stuff up that you don't have a clue about.

The other thing that you totally ignore about QB survivability is the advent of micro surgery and light weight high strength knee braces. The injury that Brady suffered, very similiar to the injury Namath suffered wasn't a survivalble athletic injury in those days. Namath was the first Pro QB to ever wear a knee brace, metal and leather.

    Meh.

I haven't been paying attention to this thread. I should have known you would manage to turn it into a Brady debate.

he has dominated in this era so it's safe to say he would dominate in any era especially previous ones against less athletic and smaller, weaker players.

I'm not sure what the point is? You are comparing pass rushing LBs of today being similar size to pass rushing DL of years past- doesn't that help my argument?

The facts are even guys at the same weight are different. 220 in 1960s weight training methods and nurtirion is very different from 220 today. a 220 guy today is rock solid, all muscle and a player that in general is much stronger, much bigger(thicker), much quicker and just an all around better athlete. This is where you guys are missing the point, I get it you guys are older and want to protect the guys you grew up watching. You want to act like the current NFL players aren't as tough as the old guys, they are every bit as tough and if they could play the way the old guys played they'd kill people- literally!

There are a million differences but #1 one is the average OL is well over 300 lbs where it was probably about 220-230 in the 60s. The size, speed, strength is off the charts compared to the players of the 60s. The average QB size today would be an OL or DL in the 60s.

If the injury Brady had was similar to namath, it still took until his 8th year starting before he suffered that injury and his career was already HOF worthy and a million times better than Joe.

This is all about some old folks trying to pretend their generation was the best, I get it but let's be realistic.

    Nah.

I'll just go back to not paying attention to this thread.

I guess I should have known you would be on brady's nuts in this thread, my bad.

Isn't it the coach's job to motivate his players into thinking they're better than they really are?

The era's are different the game has changed dramatically. The era today isn't even the same as it was when LT was playing for the Giants in the 80's.

All I'm pointing out is you simply have no clue about what you are talking about.

I don't know how good or bad Joe Namath would be today or Roger Staubach but you have no clue how good Tom Brady would be in a past era where the O he runs didn't even exist because the conditions didn't allow it. You are the one concluding that Tom Brady is a bad ass who could survive in a league that didn't protect the QB.

The bolded part above pretty much shows that you are clueless.

You keep reinforcing my poisnt then tell my I have no clue. Do you realize this?

This isn't about Brady in particular, it's about any QB who isn't considered the most athletic in today's game whether it's Brady, Manning, Rivers,.. They'd all look much quicker, that cannot be disputed.

The bolded part shows I'm clueless? You don't have any idea what we are even discussing.

That's great but mods shouldn't attack posters for no reason and if they are going to attack they should have read the thread multiple times to make sure they have all the facts.

Nothing better than hijacking a bs thread with Clint Eastwood.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I'm not hijacking anything since this is my thread.

But I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

    Another good one:

Chief: Have you been following that man?

Harry Callahan: Yeah, I've been following him on my own time. And anybody can tell I didn't do that to him.

    Chief: How?

Harry Callahan: Cause he looks too damn good, that's how!

Your definition of attack differs from most.

I'm still allowed to make jokes when I feel like it. How you take them is entirely up to you.

Well, whether it's your thread or not, or both of ours, it sure as shit is not a thread that belongs to Brady Fans.

    Another from Fistful:

Ramon: I have heard about you from my brothers.

Joe: Well, I hope they said nice things.
