i don't worry about those things. it's rare to get to the AFC championship game period. of course it's going to be tough to get there but just because we got there the previous 2 years doesn't mean we have less of a chance.
Without digging through a few weeks worth of posts (point them out to me if I'm wrong), I don't think anyone is saying it is impossible for the Jets to reach the conference championship next season; simply that it is very hard to do. Realistically, the odds are against the Jets making it there next year. That being said, the odds are against every team, and I'd certainly give the Jets a better shot than most. Of course, the odds of the Jets making it could drop to 0% if the owners and players are bull-headed enough.
Uh huh, and all of those teams made a SB appearance by going 3 times or more. History doesnt predict anything, but that actuality chart is pretty telling.
The 1974-76 Rams did not reach a Super Bowl till the 1979 season. The core of those teams remained relatively the same, but by 1979 the Rams had a different head coach. Chuck Knox was L.A.'s head coach from 1973-77. He had a record of 57-20-1. He was 54-15-1 in the regular season and 3-5 in the postseason. He was very stubborn with the running game. The Rams were easy to scheme against in the playoffs. Knox did not open up the passing game. Rams RB Lawrence McCutcheon said, "Chuck may not admit it, but I think if he could go back and do it again he might consider mixing things up on offense a little more." Knox was fired due to the poor playoff record. George Allen was hired to replace Knox. Allen had previously coached the Rams from 1966-70 and the Redskins from 1971-77. He was fired before the 1978 season began. Defensive coordinator Ray Malavasi replaced Allen. Malavasi took the Rams to the Super Bowl in his second year as head coach. **** The 1980-82 Cowboys did not eventually reach a Super Bowl. Now, of course, the Cowboys had played in Super Bowls following the 1977 and 1978 seasons, but the 1980-82 teams were different because of the QB situation. Roger Staubach had retired after the 1979 season and Danny White took over the position.
