Who are you arguing against? Find one instance where I ever said Coles was never a #1. Just one. Find one instance where I am looking at Coles' past and stating he wasn't a very good receiver. Coles just isn't elite,, never was, is not a true crutch for a quarterback, and Cotchery's skillset is better suited as a #1 possession guy because he has speed and quickness and size to do it. He's showing that this year in a very difficult situation. You can argue that Coles' injuries have been hampering him this year, but the fact is that, stats aside, if you actually watch the games, he's not catching balls that were an afterthought for him years past. He once had amazing concentration that rivalled Chrebet, and now a pass will go right through his hands. He's not fighting for the ball, either. Finding the endzone may have been a problem for Cotchery, but catching the ball is not. Right now it's a problem for Coles. I'll be surprised if he's even on the team next season.
Today at 2:22PM you said as follows: Coles had 646/6TDs and Cotch had 1130/2TDs. Both fought injuries last year, but Coles has been fighting injury for the past 4 seasons minus 2006 and Cotchery is coming into his own. You waiting for Coles to become healthy is akin to me waiting for Pennington to get healthy. It may never happen. I would like to believe Coles will get healthy again and be his former self, but really, was he ever a true #1? Dynamic, yes, elite, no.
He dropped a couple balls against Miami but one bad game does not make a bad receiver (just ask Andre Johnson). That's the one thing I don't like about Jones, and it's not his vision, although it isn't elite... I just think he is noncommittal when choosing a gap. That's what that stupid hop-cut that gustoon is talking about indicates to me. He needs to just hit the hole faster and with more confidence like Curtis used to. They are very similar backs in terms of skillset, but Curtis showed no hesitation when he hit a hole, and I think he had superior vision because, early on, he would ALWAYS know when to make that cutback. Thomas Jones is the present, until we acquire a true game-breaking running back. I hate to agree with Don, but I now know we didn't pursue Michael Turner well enough and chose to fill other holes and that was probably a mistake; right now nobody fears our running game without a power runner, and until Chatman gets off his suspension we won't have one. I believe after the game Sunday it's the end of his suspension, but I'm not sure what the official rule is about the exact date coming off a suspension. And I like the way the guy runs, fearless and aggressive enough to give me hope he'll make the difference on the ground. Otherwise we held onto his for nothing and that would suck.
