I pretty much disagree with everything the OP suggested. For starters Washington is not an every down back. He should if anything be used more in a short passing attack, but Jones is needed for between the tackles rushes. There's really no one else to do that job on the roster.
1. I like how Jones is doing. He has been decent, not overwhelming, but not bad. I would like to see a young back brought in next year though to challenge him as he is getting older. 2. They are not going to switch back to a 4-3, so that is not going to work. Plus Gholston needs some more time to learn. He is struggling. Thomas has been good this year, at least better than last year. Coleman has been solid, he is not Richard Seymour, but not garbage either. I can see Ellis being pushed out if they draft or get a FA DE to fill his spot. As of right now, he is the best player for that position. 3. Coles does have great speed, at least he used to. Know one notices because in the past with Chad, he did not run any deep routes. Wasn't he the fastest man on the team at one point? Perhaps he has lost a step. I like Stuckey, but he seems to be a similar player to Coles, so I don't know what he could do different. Right now, I would say Coles stays the starter. 4. Some of the moves have been strange, the punter deal has been discussed and I agree. I don't know why they did not simply cut the punter they signed, perhaps something to do with injuries in the contract? Not sure.
TJ is good, I think we should run the ball a lot more. I just don't understand his troubles on the goal line.
no push from the Line.. but his cutbacks look like what he did in Chicago, thats why I don't get the anger from some people... i see the SB TJ not last years TJ.
Jones has good vision, but lacks a second gear to break away for long gains. Of course, this was the wrap on him out of Chicago. He's strong, and is solid at gaining yards after initial contact. In short, he's more like Curtis Martin than Barry Sanders.
Jones has been doing his job so far, and getting solid yards while wearing down the defense. Next year we hopefully can draft a running back, but we have a decent running game this year so far. Running game isn't the problem it is our passing game and the defense just shutting down by the fourth quarter.
If your standard of success is winning the Superbowl or not, then they were pretty much in trouble before the opening snap of week 1. As I stated in the pre-week 1 season prediction thread, IMO the only shot the Jets have of winning the Superbowl this year is getting it together & getting hot late and running the table as a wild card, a la the 2007 Gints. The road to the Superbowl was never going to run through the Meadowlands (well not the AFC road anyway), if you seriously thought that, I want some of what you're having. Given the the reality that was obvious to many of us (most of the world) BEFORE WE EVEN PLAYED that the offense did not have it all together yet, and given the schedule, 2-2 was the absolute best I had hopes for going into the bye. I guess I'm saying that, on the offensive side, since my whole strategy for the Jets to get to the Superbowl had everything to do with the late games and little to do with pre-bye play, it's really really hard to fathom all the "chicken little sky is falling" talk. Seriously, I can't figure out what you people expected. The funniest thing of all this is that IMO it's the DEFENSE that is the biggest question mark for the Jets getting it together for a late season SB push, yet ... almost everyone who is posting here that the sky is falling don't even talk about it (tomdeb does, but only gives it about 5% of his attention). You all do remember that there was another offense on the field too Monday night, right, and that offense scored almost 50 points even though it was on autopilot the entire second half???
I am high on Stuckey and think that he has a bright future but Coles is the # 1 WR on this team, not Coles, not Stuckey, and not Clowney. Despite his mancrush on Pennington, the biggest problem Coles has had is that he has been playing hurt / injured. On Monday night we got a glimpse of what Favre to Coles can look like going forward. This team has some major problems but Coles isn't one of them.
Pudden, I am concerned about the D, too, but the O gave up seven points and three turnovers in the first half. Not all those points should be hung on the D. My main concern is the pass D on third, even third and long, can't seem to get off the field. Time after time... It seems they just run a three man pass rush and the other 8 are not really covering the field. WTF?
Dude you know nothing about football, one touchdown last season does not even come close to telling the story. The guy had 1,100 yards last season with the worst offensive line in football. One touchdown this season, we are three games in man! Come on....
Exactly, you guys just look for problems. Farve is the reason we got spanked on Monday plain and simple. Those INTs cost us the game.
It's not that everyone is talking about the offense, it's that you're such a Favre fanboy that those are the only threads you see. Take a browse around and you'll see that there is plenty of subject matter questioning the defense. I like Favre a lot and I think he can get the job done, but the offense is a big problem for us right now, both with players and coaches.
We will see about that when Coles is 100%. Somehow I don't remember Cotchery getting all of the touchdowns for us last year.
Coles had 646/6TDs and Cotch had 1130/2TDs. Both fought injuries last year, but Coles has been fighting injury for the past 4 seasons minus 2006 and Cotchery is coming into his own. You waiting for Coles to become healthy is akin to me waiting for Pennington to get healthy. It may never happen. I would like to believe Coles will get healthy again and be his former self, but really, was he ever a true #1? Dynamic, yes, elite, no.
