There are teams/owners that may have different circumstances than the Jets that allow them to make the severe financial commitment. Perhaps it's a window of opportunity...a team on the cusp of a championship run w/ a decent chunk of cap space to play around w/.That owner decides that he is going to sacrifice long term cap flexibility for the short term hopes that Revis is the final push for a super bowl run. Then again...maybe it's a smaller market team looking to create a splash & rise above the salary cap floor.That owner is sacrificing some finances to sell tickets & try to win back a fan base. Just a couple of possible scenarios.All it takes is one owner..
Salary cap was instituted for a reason - without the cap, you will see the likes of Yankees equivalent (= teams with big market. Cowboys and both NY teams certainly qualify for that.) swooping the VLT 26 times while the likes of KC Chiefs (or the Bengals and et al.) not even being able to sniff playoff for decades. (And that can happen to history-rich franchises like the Packers. Not a good sign.) Once you allow the teams to spend up to their financial capabilities, the league will suck in general. That's a fact. (Guess why the likes of Man Utd, Real Madrid and Barcelona are always competitive while these bottom-feeders always dip below championship league then rise again, only to dip below ad nauseum.) On a second thought, watching that stupid franchise in upstate NY wither into oblivion won't be that bad at all.
I mentioned before the scenario that is very possible, and this SB was perfect for Jets. 49ers with their shitload of picks lost by less than a TD. Someone in their FO will figure having DR in the big game would mean at least 7 less ponts allowed and = SB win. Even if getting DR is a 1 year rental, their team is already good, all the rental will cost is 3-4 useless picks. Mark my words: Revis will be a 49er before the draft.
I'm a huge Revis fan and I'll be sad to see him go but by what has happened lately it seems like a foregone conclusion that he'll be gone. Originally I thought it was just posturing for negotiation purposes but seems like there is a bit more animosity there than I anticipated. I was reading a few articles that think we could get a number of picks (either a first, second and third or even two firsts) for him and considering the cap situation this team is in and that rebuilding may be the best thing for us considering our problems at a number of spots it might be the best thing to do. Stock up on picks, cut/trade vets, play a young team and see what happens. Maybe you luck out and get a few stars or maybe you suck and get some high end picks. I don't know if we'd be bad enough to get the first or second overall pick but maybe. When is Johnny Football draft eligible? :breakdance:
Revis is a top two or three corner in the NFL. Trade his ass now and get more offensive weapons (particularly a QB). Revis' ego and stubbornness are too much for the Jets to have to deal with. His trade value is worth more to the Jets at this point.
He certainly dances to his own tune. The fact that his agents haven't muffled him makes me think he'd prefer to be dealt out.
Shit this sucks man...But this team is so bad now the only way to rebuild to overhaul. Looks like we may have to trade Revis to do this.
The worst part about this is that the jets are undoubtedly going to receive less than what his Revis would garner under normal sercumstances. 1) Every Team knows we HAVE TO trade him. 2) Comming of a knee injury 3) could get him a year later in FA after proving his knee is sound *Jets need an all out bidding war, or a star crazed owner to recieve anything near what they should.
Not the best conditions for Jets. However, when Revis walks, they'll receive a 3rd round compensation pick. Therefore they've at least got 3rd rounder as the floor when entering trade negotiations. Luckily for Jets, two prime time playoff teams (Broncos & Niners) are sitting home this offseason thinking Revis could've been the push to get the championship. They also draft too late to grab one of the prime CB prospects this draft.
Yeah except his Injury IMO KILLS that scenario.... No way in hell, if I'm a GM on the cusp do I think Trading a 1st round draft Pick Plus more and then pay a CB Quarterback Money would be THE thing that puts my team over the hump.... FACE IT JETS FANS WE ARE SCREWED..... REVIS HAS SCREWED THIS FRANCHISE ROYALLY. I don't understand why anyone thinks a GM would give up a 1st round pick plus more and pay an INJURED CB record setting money...... Here's what I see happening.... 1) NO TRADES - No team STUPID enough 2) Revis' Injury suddenly and mysteriously lingers keeping him out of just enough games to get his to way past 100% and more marketable as a FREE AGENT. 3) Revis comes back to play in 2013 with however many games keep him eligible for whatever is best for TEAM REVIS.... 4) Revis walks out the door after next year and Gives a Big Middle Finger F-YOU to Woody Johnson and Jets fans 5) Jets get SCREWED!!!!!! THIS is why I was done with Revis the last time he pulled his Bull Shit routine. I don't even blame this on Tanny like I blame most everything else - Revis and his Handlers are just PRICKS!

Do not underestimate the power of hype. Yes there are certainly significant risks in place for anyone interested in Revis. But we're talking about arguably the most respected defensive player in the game.Not only is Revis dominant at a position scarce of talent league wide(despite the jets stacked talent) but he's also a guy that has branding power. The very things that Jet fans accused Woody of being enamored with over Tebow also apply to the acquisition of Revis. Media coverage,ticket sales,merch..all to go along w/ his play on the field. Now maybe the Jets aren't gonna get a Hershell Walker type package back...but again..all it takes i one owner or desperate GM.
Kristian Dyer who covers the Jets for Metro New York was on the NFL Network this morning. He said the Jets are looking for a #1 and #3 for Revis. I hope its more than a #1 and #3 if its a trade to San Francisco,Denver or Atlanta. Those are late round picks.
That would be an incredible haul for the Jets. This guy isn't on a rookie contract. Anybody that trades for him is only guaranteed one season. And that's immediately after season-ending injury. Just like the Jets, Revis is likely to walk out on his new team also. Highest bidder only.
