I don't think it's that at all in the case of Singletary. People really love the guy. The Ravens defensive players raved about the guy in 2003 and 2004. It went way beyond the normal praise that players might heap on their coach(es).

I was pissed when Mike Nolan was fired and Singletary was named the interim coach. I was pissed because I don't like the 49ers and knew Singletary would do good there. Now I'm conflicted. Root for a coach I like but for a team I don't like.

Well, anyway, once Singletary was out of the picture, Leslie Frazier, another 1985 Bears starter, went up to the #1 spot on my list of top head coaching candidates (not including retreads).

Sometimes I swear you argue just to argue......

It's not that they went 9-7. They were 8-3 and lost 4 of thier last 5 games to miss the playoffs and you and I know both know it should have been 5 straight. They had an easy schedule and lost to the Raiders, Seahawks and 49ers who won a combined 16 games. Throw in the asskickings at the hands of the Broncos and Chargers and you'd be hard pressed to find any consistency other than the Titans game. They struggled against the Chiefs and Bengals who combined to win 6 games.

This team took a step backward last year following the 10-6 season and this year they missed the playoffs. The 23-25 record over 3 seasons isn't exactly extension tyoe stuff either. It's not that they just won "only" 9 games as you put it.
