Well thats a different story. From what you originally said he sounded like a late 6th round guy at best. As I have said many a time I don't begin doing any prospect research until the whole class is out there. So i havent done any looking into the prospects for this year. So if this guy is what you say he is, than he should be on a lot of radars come April...
A lot of mock drafts have us taking Moreno, but I don't think that's the right pick for us right now. He's a great back, but I'd rather we trade our 2nd pick up to get Shonn Greene in the late 1st/early 2nd. That kid is an every down bruiser. I really want us to take Taylor Mays. I've heard great things about him and saw him a bunch earlier this year. I'm excited to see him play against Penn State today.
Spikes and Curry are top of the LB class. Wide receivers Maclin may be better than Crabtree. I also like Britt for his size but the kid from North Carolina Akeem Hicks will be the surprise from the draft. This kid is real good. If you go speed rushes Michael Johnson and George Selvie scare me as a bust. Tyson Jackson may be too slow. The kid from Penn st. is real fast but needs to put on a little muscle. The T.C.U. kid is a player from the DE position as is this Northen Illonois kid. A surprise player could be this kid named Sidburry from Richmond. The Texas DE is over hyped. He is good but not what they say! Malcolm Jenkins hands down is the best corner. Vonte Davis and the kid from Wake Forest is a close second. The kid from vanderbilt is to soft as well as the Connecticuit kid. The two dbs from cincinnatti are interesting for the fact that D'angelo Smith will be a better pro than Mickens who gets the most hype. If we go to a 4-3 defense han we have to draft a DT. My personal favorites are the kid from Mississippi. Perria and the kid from Nebreska, Sui. I don't know if the Nebreska kid comes out but he reminds me of the Minnesota Vikings DT. If we go safety there is only 1 beast out there and that is the U.S.C. safety who is a Ronnie Lott-Atwater clone. Moore scares me since he has been not playing at the level he played last year but that what Steve Slaton did his final year which dropped him down in the draft and looked what happened to him in Houston. The Alabama safety is overated but there are two players I like in the later rounds of the draft and its the Notre Dame and Rutgers safety.
If you want to draft a QB in this draft I would draft Graham Harrell. He reminds me of Rivers. He has a certain toughness. I been pretty sucessful in my draft picks as I been predicted players for over 35 years. I said when Rivers came out he would be sucessful. I like Bradford and the Georgia kid too. The Georgia kid has a gun and reminds me of Cutler but he is erratic and Bradford may not have the arm strength like Pennington but smart. These two will go in 1st round as long if they perform well in the combine. Harrell will be a steal if he last in the 3rd round.
Another must for the Jets is a punter. Either the huber kid from Cincinnatti or the Utah kid. This is a glaring weakness. Gano is also will be a great place kicker. Pick them up as free agents. Gano and the Utah kid most likely will be drafted though.
Graham Harrell is the next Ken Dorsey. He's light, has mediocre arm strength but great accuracy, and plays horrible if he gets hit. In my opinion he's not a NFL QB.
WW85, I like where your head is at with the Taylor Mays pick for safety (if I'm reading your avatar right that is) but if we can't get him, what do you think about Courtney Greene from Rutgers? Not a punishing hitter but the guy is a beast in coverage and with him in the defensive backfield we could probably move Rhodes closer to the LOS where he seems to do the most damage.
Courtney Greene is vastly overrated -- mainly by you Rutgers fans. He's far from being a "beast" in coverage. He's done most of his damage against the run. He's racked up 100 + tackles in almost all of his seasons at Rutgers.
OK, I probably misspoke when I said beast but he's still a good prospect and since we can't get every top rated safety in this draft I figured looking at a guy who might be around in the later rounds would be a good idea.
I'm a Rutgers fan and I agree with you about Courtney Greene being overrated, but he's a solid safety nonetheless. I think he should be available in round 3
I'd love to get Mays, but unless the Jets trade up, it isn't going to happen. Mays is going to be a top ten pick....it's a lock. Mays is a total freak, 240 LBs and runs a 4.3......that's insane. Some scouts feel Mays could convert to a LB. IMO, to play safety in the NFL and keep your speed, Mays needs to play at 225-230. Mays could be the next Sean Taylor type Safety. As far as Greene, I believe he had a better year last year. I was unimpressed with his spotty play this year. Greene will probably be a 3rd rd pick. A safety I like, that could be a 3rd or 4th rd pick......Curtis Taylor LSU, good size (6'3") in the mold of Rhodes and has played well for LSU. Mangini's defense the safeties were interchangeable.....FS or SS didn't mean much with the way they rotated/shifted their defensive schemes. Without knowing our new head coach, predicting players drafted, especially on defense, is tough.
