I will settle this with one name and then you can stop your b*&^ing. John Abraham... not a Mangini Player. All-Pro talent, Sand Lot Attitude. Enter Mangini, exit Abraham.
Please, Mangini had nothing to do with Abraham not playing with the Jets organization anymore. Do you consider the NFL to be a "business" or a "game", primarily? If you consider it a "business" (which I think you should, correct me if I'm wrong), then it would make sense that Jets organization would be concerned about his health before they would give him a BIG contract. MAKES GOOD BUSINESS SENSE, doesn't it? Each one of us has a job, there's no such thing as company loyalty anymore, wouldn't you agree? Companies are not loyal to employees, and employees are not loyal to companies. That?s why Abraham isn?t playing for the Jets anymore. Do you think it was a good BUSINESS decision by the Jets organization? Peace out, L3
saying "Mangini player" is just a euphemism for the traits (already listed in this thread) that Mangini requires of players. it's not bullshit either; all you have to do is ask yourself: if he had the chance, would Mangini bring in guys like Pac Man Jones, Tank Johnson, Odell Thurman, Chris Henry, T.O., etc? the answer is no because they aren't Mangini guys -- they don't fit the description he's looking for. why is this so difficult to comprehend? cheers
The Kevan Barlow trade negates any credence to the 'Mangini Guy' argument. He's a bum, he was a bum before we traded for him, and he proved how much of a bum he was a week later, and still was a starter for a decent portion of the season. Mangini wants to win football games, and he will go against the 'Mangini Guy' credo to do it. Just like Mumbles.
I'm sure the NYJ's just like any other NFL team do extensive backround checks on anyone they bring into camp. They don't want problems. Hey if a guy comes up 2-3-4 times with legal issues would you hire him..doubtful. Zebra's don't change their stripes so the odds are there will be more incidents in the future. Every head coach should spend every minute making his team better not trying to PR some mess from some guy who doesn't have enough sense to stay out of trouble.
You guys are amazing. 1) John Abraham was considered one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. That is an absolute fact. 2) John Abraham was one of the best, if not best, players on this team when Tanny and Mangini took over. 3) Many other teams were ready to beg, borrow and steal to get John Abraham Your gonna bring freakin injuries into this...hahahahahaha....Chad Pennington, still a NY JET !!! Injury-riddled history with the Jets, ya think! OK, Money ... always a factor in the NFL .... yes, a BUSINESS, not a hobby. If you don't think John Abraham's character was a MAJOR factor in his move to Atlanta then you are touching yourself. We needed John Abraham on the field, guess what we still do, but in many ways it was a good move. He was a distraction, and you didn't know when you were going to get that all-pro effort. This is where "Mangini Guy" comes in ... Everyone get hurt, nicked up, in the NFL, Teams want guys who will play through injury. Teams want guys who speak the company line and avoid dissention in the locker room. Teams want guys who know their role and shut their hole. Abraham was not one of these guys and is now a Falcon. If he had Chrebet like character/reputation he would still be a Jet, Fans would have burned the Weeb Hall down if he was traded. The Jets got good value for him and he is gone, but mostly he was shopped because he wasn't a Mangini guy. PS: Don't give me this crap that he was no good in the 3-4, he was a pretty adept run stopper when motivitated and an absolute game changer in any defense.
It was a great move getting Abraham out and getting mangold. JA played what in 2006? Maybe 8 quarters of football this year how many games did he miss as a Jet. that dude is a slacker I don't care how much talent he has he will never earn his salary, that's already a fact in Atlanta!
We let Abraham walk because he was a slacker, not because of any character issues. His former DWI had nothing to do with him falling out with the CS. What got him out of here was the amount of money he wanted in relation to his part-time performance. The value simply wasn't there anymore. Good move, IMO.
