That was the cruel irony of the Vinny injury. Not only was everything in place for us to win, but Vinny was virtually indestructible for pretty much his whole 18-year career except for that. The last thing we thought we'd need to worry about was a backup QB.
T-Bird: Great report. I know it would've been better had I been able to be there with you (and I only wish that were so), but you still "done good" my friend. Sorry I couldn't be with you too much this summer, dude (although I will always remember that 105-degree July day in early camp, 2006), but I'm glad to see you're carrying on in true "TBird-Section" tradition. Carry on, and keep up the good work! I'll be attending the Eagles game in person, so perhaps I'll be able to break away from the crap I've been dealing with and provide some sort of last-game, preseason commentary. It looks like we've got the basic team now. What happens from here is anybody's guess. I feel confident that whatever happens this year, at least we're as well-prepared as we can be, which is a far cry from where we stood going into Arrowhead last year. Talk to you soon...
Missed yer company, bro. Man.... that day in my backyard with 1028, Kurt and you, cooking on those bleachers.... that was brutal hot. I was determined to look at Chad with an unbiased eye this year, and damn if he didnt get me on the bandwagon again. That pass to McCareins... best I've seen him throw since 2002. Still, darned happy to have Clemens around. Funny how things change...last year we were sure McCariens would have a great year... this year, will he even be on the team? Have fun at the Philly game.... I'll be watching.
Yeah, I'm disappointed in McCareins and it's probably not for the reasons most people would think. I don't care about this "doghouse" thing and don't even care about him supposedly showing up for camp out of shape. I'm pissed by the way he played for most of last year.... no separation from defenders and no desire to extend himself and make even somewhat difficult catches. He had a good camp last year, we could all see that. But then when it counted, he was gone. I hate guys who look good in camp and then disappear when the heat is on. Anyway, my guess is, the Jets FO is still shopping his ass and we almost came close to getting Duckett by throwing him in in the potential deal too, the only thing was, they didn't want him (probably because they saw on film what I'm talking about). So now we give up a 4th for Barlow and I'm not sure we should have done that. This guy better prove he's damned good or I'll go ballistic. Anyway, yeah, the Philly game will be fun.... it's more of a social event because we've got these friends from South Jersey who are Eagles fans, so we'll go hang out with them. I always tell them, "I'm rooting for the team in green and white. Which team are you rooting for?" The last preseason game becomes a conservative display of 3rd and 4th stringers and nobody wants injuries, so I don't know how meaningful the game becomes or what we'll really learn. Mangini will have his mind made up on 90% of the players as to who he's cutting even before kickoff. SO it becomes just a fun night... sitting in the parking lot drinking a couple of beers and going in and watching the first quarter. The rest of the game you're sitting there going, "WTF is that number? Never heard of him."
Do not see enough of him to make a judgement but he seems to have a good rep around the league. Why would you ask me such a question?
Because you wrote, "Just wait just like the sands of time caught up to Herm they will catch up to JV. Just 2 small & not strong enough. Really that plain & simple & sorry if U disagree." Brooks w/ 9 consecutive pro bowl selections under his belt seems to have like you said "have a good rep around the league". Why can't Vilma, who has a very similar game and size, do the same? What makes Vilma "just 2 small and not strong enough" and Brooks not?
His coach at UM said that when we drafted him on Miami radio. So far the reports from TC appear to make his remarks quite correct. Maybe DB is quicker shedding the block then JV is. Maybe DB is smarter & sees the play develop faster then JV does. There could be many reasons for the difference in the man even though they are more/less the same size. Not seeing enough of DBs cause he plays with TB I cannot truly reply to your question except IMHO JV will just wind up as another player in NYJ history. If you have a different opinion then time will tell which one of us were more correct in there evulation of JV
