They were all mid to late round picks come Combine time in their respective years. None of them were consensus top choices. Clausen is a top 10 pick. Don't let the ESPN and NFLN bullshit get in the way. The kid is the most ready and his injuries aren't threatening to his arm.
Matt Ryan did NOT throw at the combine, neither did Quinn and Stafford. Flacco and Freeman weren't top QB prospects.
I just checked on Ryan, you were right. I remember Mayock raving, so it must have been on his pro day. Quinn hurt himself by not throwing(prima donna). Stafford ran, but didn't throw. I dont remember if Ryan ran(His agent is Tom Condon, he never lets his top guy throw). My original point was not to bash Clausen( who I am not sold on). It was to reiterate that we should trade our first rounder so we could get an extra pick. It lines up well for us picking ahead of Minn. and my thinking that top 5-10 teams might not take a QB.(One more point about Clausen. He was asked what current NFL QB does he compare to the most? His answer Tom Brady. Was this a good answer? Probably, but outside of working with Weis, I don't see a ton of similarities. Ht, arm, college career, round taken all will be very different.)
FROM PETER KING'S MMQB . I think the more I hear about the players at the top of the draft, the more I think the Rams should use the first pick on one of the two top defensive tackles (Ndamukong Suh or Gerald McCoy), then trade up to the mid-20s with their second-round pick to nab Colt McCoy, the Texas quarterback. You think he'll be there with the first pick in the second round? Not sure of that. Not sure at all. I think he'll end up going in the 20s. Just have to replace Clausen with McCoy. I still think this makes the best sense for the Browns. I'm glad we have a 4th rounder now and could somehow parlay our 1 and 4 into 2 2's and a 3. We could go S,RB and WR.
6'3 230...6'2 5/8 222. Nitpicking a little bit here, man? RIGHT NOW, I don't think Jimmy Clausen will make it out of the top ten.
Yep. Nitpicking. I don't think he will make it out of the top ten right now either. If Bradford is this highly rated with half a right shoulder, I don't think Clausen's toe will be a problem for teams( Although I was right about his hands being small). Something about the kid rubs me the wrong way, not his personality but his play. Maybe his play with the toe injury has me underestimating him and he is better than what I saw. I wouldn't take him with a top ten pick though, not this year. I don't think there is a big separation between him and McCoy.
Johnny, if I'm reading the initial post correctly, I think you are saying Brandon Graham can slide to the 2nd round? Unless he tested positive for heroin and I don't know about it, that (IMO) is impossible
UMMM. No.You didn't read it correctly. I said if he screws up at the combine he could drop(See Dunlap, Carlos).
Carlos Dunlap didn't screw up at the combine. He screwed up when he got drunk, tried to drive home, and passed out at a traffic light.
WOW, what a horrible mistake, I can't believe he's training with that loser Anthony Schlegel  Nah but seriously, I don't know what to say other than what did he mean by "where I'm from that's pretty common"? Where is he from man, the town where they filmed Deliverence? hmy: Strange story, consenual sex between siblings, very strange and very sad
I'm sorry Johnny, I was just trying to be funny but sometimes humor doesn't translate well over the internet. I meant no offense and I'm sorry if any was taken.
From what I heard on NFL Radio, some teams removed him from their first round board after the combine interviews.
Just a quick update because I hate starting threads, Cleveland has added a third round pick(Wimbley trade) and clearly needs a QB of the future(unless they secretly love Ratliff). This is still in play(our 1 for a 2 and 3). Remember, this year is VERY different with how the draft is run. St. Louis is in a super power chair because it's 24 hours before the second round goes. If teams don't move up to the end of the first for a player they like, the whole board gets reset for everyone. This moves up the likelyhood of STL taking a QB with the first pick, because they can ask a ransom for their 2nd rounder. They need picks, the first rounder is almost untradeable and they need a QB. Only move they can make.(I hope I'm making sense)
Looks like a trade down scenario with Clev. Chances are dwindling. That trade looks like a move to take a QB. They got a CB and a OLB.
