trying to play devil's advocate with you here...
as a UNC fan i really hope he becomes a good NFL player
i've read the reports...and at times i've seen the glimpses
I just can't say he doesn't carry the risk that any other wr does in the first round
at 17 i'd take Maclin....or wait and take a wr in the 2nd round

Of course. Every rookie carries some varying degree of risk.. But honestly, this guy is a tough, polished, NFL ready reciever with outstanding hands, great size and strength and good quickness. What's not to like?

I love Nicks as a player and think he will be good. I just like the higher ceiling that I belive Sean Smith has as a Safty in the NFL. Nicks will be a very good #2 type or lower tier #1 guy on a team. Smith I can see becoming a very, very good nfl Safty and has tons of versatility that Rex can make great use of.

    Fair enough..

I just see Sean Smith as a safety/cornerback hybrid type with a few question marks that worry me. He seems like a bit of a boom or bust type of prospect to me whereas Nicks certainly has the potential to be a upper tier number one WR.

This isn't too different from what I've been thinking. I think we'd be fine taking Nicks at 17, and I'd like to see us take Brace or another suitable DL that we can rotate with the starters in the 2nd. But I'd really like to see the Jets draft some OL depth in the 3rd; someone who they can develop to eventually take over for Faneca or Woody and possibly step in if a starter got hurt.

Now he has. He scored a sparkling 11 on the Wonderlic and is a fat ass.
