I would. I feel like him and Coleman are very similar. However, Coleman played on an AWFUL team. So every defense knew he was getting the ball since he was the focal point of the offense, and he still lit them up. This was even done against top teams. IU's QB play was pathetic, and after Sudfeld went down, the QB play got even worse, which made Coleman even MORE the focal point (however, his catches went down went Sudfeld went down). Coleman's backup Roberts averages 4.6ypc, while Gordon's backup Clement has touted for 6.5ypc. So if you believe in the whole wins above replacement theory, Coleman's performance is even more legitimized. For that reason, I give Coleman an edge. Gordon is a great talent, but that's how I weighed it.
I'm not against RBs being taken in the 2nd round per se, especially this year's crop. I only meant the Jets taking one in the 2nd unless a RB in the 2nd rd was the clear cut BPA. Melvin Gordon will be gone in the first round and if Todd Gurley's rehab looks to be progressing a full speed he'll probably join him as well with Ajayi, Duke J. and Coleman going in the 2rd-3rd.
agreed on the 2nd round pick needing to be BPA. there's a number of ways we can go there as we'll have plenty of needs, so get the best possible player. there are some things to like about taking a RB in that spot though.. 1) teams are bearish on taking RB's in the 1st round as of late. So with our high 2nd round selection, it's quite possible to land one of the very best RB's in the entire draft. that supports BPA. 2) we'll have the need. i believe CJ will be cut, and whether we re-sign Powell or not (i hope we do), we'll still need an explosive playmaker who can add to the short passing game 3) we won't have a good QB next year. I'm hoping for at least mediocre play. leaning on a RB on 3rd downs for a change will really help out whoever that QB is, and RB is one of the few positions who can come in and contribute right away. the right guy could really be a plus for our offense. 4) i don't advocate spending on RB in FA. nabbing a good player in the draft answers the position on the cheap for the next few years. just some things to think about if a good RB is sitting out there in round 2..
Great point. That's right on the money, and the Jets could be in a great position to get a phenomenal talent in round 2.
I think you under estimated yourself. That is not a feeble attempt at a mock that is a pretty good mock. It addresses most of the Jets needs and its was backed up by film. Good job!!!
I think White's performance today solidifies why I think he should edge out Cooper. Even though they were in gym shorts, the dude was a stud.
