I'm glad that there's some Jet fans who like what Idzik has done so far. Really all I've read and heard in the past couple of days was negativity. This is a great thread and I'm reading a lot of great optimistic posts. This team is headed in the right direction. Thank you Idzik.
I was a bit bummed day 1 because I wanted to see offense addressed. I am very happy with how it worked out after day 2. I have no idea if Geno will pan out, but at least I won't have to watch anymore Sanchez. Getting the best CB, a good defensive lineman, the top rated QB, an offensive lineman and a rb...I can't complain. It's a good looking draft.
You can't be serious!!!!! YOU are the one who needs to apologize because if it were up to you, Sanchez would still be the QB, all our salary cap money to Revis, Tannenbaum still at GM and Rex would have been locked up for another 5 years. In other words, nothing would have changed!!!!! And your new boy Sheldon would not be a Jet. Oh and you were so wrong about the direction of this franchise. I guess it doesn't matter cause you just go where the wind blows. You really make me laugh. As for my feelings on this draft, I will wait and see. Not thrilled with Geno but at least we have a young QB to watch this season and that makes things very interesting. I have no desire to see Sanchez take one snap, even in preseason. But I've been saying since the end of the season that there was no way Sanchez would be the QB of the Jets ever again. So I'm not surprised we picked Geno. I hope he does well, if not then draft another QB next season. Nothings really changed. We're still going to stink this season and hopefully that leads to the #1 pick.
Not crazy about the Geno pick. He is a questionable leader and rattles under pressure, so it remains to be seen if it will be an improvement over what we have now. They had Lacy on the board which would have filled a need for a starting RB. This pick is a head scratcher. He may be a better option than Tebow though and I think that's what the Jets have in mind when they drafted him. But he's a project for sure.
So far Sheldon is the best part of this draft: he will really gives the Jets an identity on defense that they lacked since Kris Jenkins got injured. The opponents will have to game plan every week just like when Revis was on the field. I'd venture to say that the D will be more fun to watch than the O this year.
If RR can find a way of getting our fron D line to maximize the combined abilities of Richardson, Coples, Mo Wilks and Eliis, collapsing the pocket, stopping the run and getting to Brady often I will consider the draft a supreme success. Remember that as bad as our offense was, with no receivers available nor a TE, the D stunk against the run giving up leads. So if we plug that hole we will be far better than last year.
Remember last year or may be 2 years ago when the NFL.com was annointing the Eagles as the team with far and away best combination of free agent signings and draft picks, and for sure a strong candidate for the SB run? How did that work for them? Funny thing though, my gut tells me the Dolphins and the Bucks might be going down the same path now.
For me, not since Jenkins was with them at 100%. With KJ, you could sense that Rex had a D he was very proud of - which led to the term "Jet Football' that he emphasized so boastfully. Last year was not fun at all, with Revis out and the DL giving up big short-yardage plays down the stretch, Rex was not a happy camper. Imo, the DL with Kris was very dominant and very much had that aura that in some ways reminded me of the days of the Sack Exchange - not so much about sacks but more about dominance and controlling the line of scrimmage. I think Rex wanted this back to when he first started with the Jets.
Not everybody has been negative on the Jets draft. Many knowledgable football people think Idzik is making lots of excellent moves. I'm kind of amazed that Jet fans are upset. To me it looks like Idzik has systematically improved the team while making good value moves. Dee Milliner was the best option for the Jets at 9 he runs a 4.37 and is the best CB in the draft - projected by SI to go at the #2 overall pick. w/Richardson at 13 Idz could have gone Star or Warmack or Geno or maybe even Jones - but Star has a bad heart condition and Jones has spinal stenosis - and therefore neither of them are worth risking a 1st Rd top 15 pick. Warmack would have been a good pick at 13, but Sheldon Richardson is an excellent pick at 13 -Versatile, quick, talented DT who penetrates. I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS PICK - especially when you look at the options Idz had at 13 - It was Warmack or Richardson and I get it that Idz is not into drafting a G at 13 right now. I also get that Idz apparently doesn't believe in spending high draft picks on Wrs unless Megatron is sitting there. W/Geno at 39 - I like this pick. Geno is as fast as Kapernik and wilson. He was widely expected to be a top 15 Draft pick. To get him at 39 is AWESOME and may well go down as an NFL All Time steal. This is also a Statement Pick by Idz - there was a Potential future franchise QB available and Idz had the brains and balls to pull the trigger and do the right thing even though alot of folks were shocked and confused by the pick. Its a Great Pick IMO - we had 1 of the worst starting qbs in the league last season and IDZ got the top QB in the draft w/o trading up to do so - CAN I GET A FREAKING AMEN FOR THAT????? 3rd Rd Idz goes out and gets Brian Winters who is a big strong mauler w/excellent leverage and hand fighting technique - very good run blocker. Love to see NYJ go OL in the 3rd. Winters looks like a very good selection at an area of need. This Pick shows that Idz clearly knows that you build a football team from the Inside out and that our OL has some great players but still needed to be addressed - Winters is part of Idz rebuilding the OL. 4th Rd - Idz goes out and gets Chris Ivory. This is a very interesting move. Ivory is fast, tough and explosive when he can get on the field. Apparently the Jets think he will become a productive pass catcher. Ivory can be a dynamic player for the Jets. This is huge evidence that IDZ has a plan and he is executing that plan - He is getting talented players and building his offense from the inside out - love it. Floyd - reasonable people could disagree about who is the best of those 3. Star will probably be a star DT but he has a heart condition which sounds scary and mos def has to affect his value at 13. Shariff fell off everybody's board due to short arms, questionable production and poor interview.
Bill Cowher also started Kordell Stewart for far too long at QB. What Bill Cowher thinks about offensive decisions doesn't necessarily matter.
Yup. Think about our Defensive Line rotation right now...should be beastly. And the thing I like about guys like Coples, Wilkerson, and Richardson is they're diverse enough in their game we can have them line up inside, outside, run stunts, etc. Hell, Richardson dropped back into coverage a few times at Missouri (seriously). The only remark I'm confused about in this post is...whoever the third WR will be.....Kerley? Jeremy Kerley?
We still need help at O-line. We only have 8 linemen on the roster counting draft and FA. And Ducasse is still penciled as the starter which is a disaster waiting to happen. We should have addressed this in Rd 1 but now I don't know what the plan is.
i still dont like it but what can you do. i really wanted a difference maker in the first round and jarvis jones was that guy in my eyes. i thin both of the guys we got should be solid players but i dont see either one being a real difference maker. im not a fan of smith either i really was begging for us NOT to take him in the first.. thought we dodged a bullet and then he ended up being there in the second. BUT he marks the end of mark sanchez so for that i like him. and i hope he proves me wrong. the OT that cant play tackle i a question mark for me. small school guy, that conference is still very much second rate even though they have played better football the past number of years. but he could be a good player. i really cant say i know enough about him. ivory im not sold on. sure he averaged 5 ypc but he played on no and only carried the ball 258 times in 3 years. only one year did he have even a decent amount of carries and that was only about 10 per game. so i am taking a wait and see approach on him. we will see how he ends up. i dont hate the draft we have put forth, but i think it could have been better. br4d has changed my mind a bit on warmack at 9 so i am going to keep on trying to see the positives of some of the moves. but this wasnt a knock em out draft like i was really looking forward to.
I love what Idzik has done so far since he took over. The only thing I hated to see what the Revis trade but I can't blame that all on him, things had been set in motion since before he took over that helped lead to that. My only problem is that I really wanted a pass rusher, I love Jarvis Jones and I feel like we sit on this board every year and discuss how the Jets have to address finding an OLB who can rush the passer, and they seem to neglect it every year. However I can't argue with either of the picks the Jets made.
