As for moving up vs filling holes, read NC's rationale for moving up earlier in this thread. I agree 100% with that argument. As for risk, you can't avoid that no matter what you do, so you may as well embrace it and get the guy you believe in most.

Trade up to 3 on the clock if your guy is still on the board. How can you trade up if you have no idea who you’re getting?

Literally mortgaging the future for a mystery box.

You are securing ONE of the top 3 QBs ...and it’s about time this clown show showed some moxie for something other than a pair of safeties

Yeah, I'd go straight to pick 1, if possible.

I would hope that Mac wouldn't make a blind trade. Based on what I've read in the past, on many trades the team with the higher pick inquires as to what player the team seeking the trade up will be picking before they agree to the trade, especially if that team really wants a player and is only trading down a spot or a few spots and think they can still get the player they want or a player they want at the lower spot, and the trade is sometimes definite, but sometimes conditional on that coveted player still being there at the higher pick. Unless Mac would be happy taking any one of 2-3 players that would be there at #3 but potentially not at #6, I would hope that it would be a conditional trade for a specific QB.

As you know there usually isn't time to work out a trade during the draft. Teams have to have talked and worked out deals or tentative deals prior to the draft.

I think "mortgaging the future" is a glass half empty attitude. I think it is instead "seeking to secure the team's future by attempting to add a FQB." It hurts any time a team misses on a 1st or 2nd round draft pick, and hurts more if multiple picks are used, but in terms of the cap/financially, it is no longer a big deal.

There is no way Jets trade up to 3 pre draft, unless they had 3 QBs rated equally and as franchise QB prospects. It’s extremely unlikely that they would be happy with any of 3 QBs though and willing to move picks to ensure it.

Most likely they inquire about moving to one once they lose out on Cousins and make the move now if it’s feasible or sit tight and wait til Colts are on clock to move to 3 if there guy, whomever that my be, is still there.

if there is a draft to move up its this one - not only for the QB but with 90 million in cap space, the jets can afford to lose a couple draft picks in the process......

years ago they were moving up with not nearly the same cap room.

Mac has to make deals NOW for the 3 spot ...but contingent on whether the Cousins deal materializes for the Jets..

He doesn't have to give 8 picks away maybe only a couple of second rounders and next years first...or just ask the Colts what they want..it should be a generous offer to the Colts imo because I am 75 per cent certain KC says no to us...and his job is hanging on getting a FQB

Think about it ..at the 3 spot the worse that could happen is to get your third ranked QB from your evaluation ...hmm who would complain over a consolation prize of say Darnold ????

But HE BETTER DO SOMETHING because it's only bout 10 days away from FA

One of the top 3 QBs may not be the best QB in this class, it might end up being Mayfield or Jackson. The top 3 looked great at the end of 2016..not as much now.

I consider Mayfield Rosen and Darnold THE top 3 imho

Mac the Macdoodling may check his notes and think it's Mason Rudolf Lamar Jackson and Sean Lauretta for all I know ( I don't think MM is THAT bad lol)

I'm definitely not against it, if they know for sure it's their guy. I'd pay to see the Jets draft board right now! The suspense of this off season is killing me. I still think the best way to do it is to work a deal in advance with the colts that if player X drops to them, they pull the trigger. Many teams go into draft day with deals like that in place, it just happens that the player they want doesn't always fall so many of them get negated.

Well that's good to hear....we SHOULD get a good QB prospect OR Barkley, if Macc can swing a trade. We have 2 #2's, so that will help. I think in all likelihood Browns will take Josh Allen #1, Giants will take Barkley #2, Jets will trade with Colts and take Rosen #3, & Browns will trade out of #4.

....then Jets don't draft again until the 2025 ;)

lol I always seen fans of other teams excited and ready to trade up in the draft for a QB they really wanted... but this team? this fan base.. no way. We're always "giving up too much" .. or "have too many needs" ... some BS like that.

I say if the jets love one of these QB's... GO.GET.HIM.

Why even allow another team to jump in front of you if there is a player ESP a QB that you absolutely love?

We can swap firsts with Indy, give them seattle's 2nd, and next years pick too... take it. we'll be good.
WE NEED A FRANCHISE QB BADLY.

I dont think many of us thought that. I supported him and felt they never gave him a chance after the first 2 seasons, but i never liked him as a prospect.

That being said, i do like 2. Im usually like like you. These are just the qbs that came out this year. But I think Rosen and Mayfield have the "it" factor. Mayfield even threw better than i expected during the combine. Another thing i like about him, all his stats improved every season hes played and so have his mechanics. Thats a pretty encouraging thing. You dont see that with many prospects coming out anymore. Their stats or mechanics may get better, but usually not both.

Rosen has the ability to throw from the pocket. Which os something jets qbs have not been able to do recently. He needs some work but i think he can at worst, be Stafford, a middling qb who keeps you competitive.

If that's what it takes to move up to the 3rd pick and get our QB of the future, I'd make that move every day of the week and twice on Sunday. :)

He wouldn't take Minkah as we have two safeties, but Ward from Ohio State I could def see and to be honest, wouldn't be mad at. With the way this league is (QB's passing for 350+ yards a game), I would love a lock down secondary.

Copy that!!! I'd even chip in for that view. But then again, knowing the Jets, I'd probably have to respond by "WTF are you guys thinking!!!!"

You absolutely do not trade now.
There are several good QBs who will be signed changing what teams are in immediate need come draft day.
There are still pro days, work outs interviews. There is no clear order amongst the prospects at this point.
Any trade up or down should be made on draft day and those trades will depend on who is rated where and cost/ value of the trade in question.
Funny how some of those wanting a trade now in full blown panic, are the ones who claim Mac panics on draft day.
Long way to go before the draft. Relax and save the energy for the Fire everyone threads to come.

I’d trade for Rosen all day or wait and hope for Mayfield at 6.

Would prefer Cousins and then trade down from 6 if poss to Bill for 21 and 22 and fill more holes ie oline and olb. Pick an RB (Jones) in 2nd with another oline or WR.
