This draft is very good for safeties. Up till round 4, I think it's possible to grab a safety good enough to start opening day. Round 5 is possible but pushing it imho. Free Safeties, Strong Safeties are there for multiple teams. Wouldn't be surprising at all if a team doubled down on safeties this draft. Don't think any of them are franchise altering players but lots of solid prospects.
This draft class is loaded with quality starting safety's rounds 2-4/5. Elam will be a big time in the box safety. I've never seen a player that lays the wood like he does. Almost every one of his tackles is a big hit and not just recievers coming across the middle but runbingbacks on run plays. Bob sanders type player minus the constant sore vagina
pick up a solid rookie prospect and the backfield should be solid next season. was disappointed when dawan left without a contract but not anymore obviously haha glad they picked him up, hopefully he can be a strong voice in the locker room and help our younger guys. would so much rather have him than bell again. and thats not saying that bell played bad. but this is definitely a good signing IMO
This signing should certainly help our depth. If you think Dawan is going to be a "game changer" you are wrong. He rated in the 60's out of 80 something safeties according to profootballfocus.com just below his brother LaRon. He knows our system and came on the cheap. Another low risk high upside move by Idzik. We will probably draft another safety as this class is pretty deep. Good signing, but our safety talent is still worse than last year.
Conor Orr @ConorTOrr 5m Dawan Landry is set to make a base salary of $850,000 in 2013, $1.5 million in 2014, according to NFLPA records. #nyj #jets
Solid contract, hopefully very little guaranteed. Still expect a S drafting. As is the case w all of our signings, this doesn't eliminate the need but prevents desperation. Most of these players are fringe guys but will allow the draft mindset to not be clouded by huge gaping holes. Like the ones Wayne Hunter allowed.
Sounds good to me. Not just a one year deal and we're possibly looking for another safety in free agency next year to replace him but also not a long term deal either. I agree with a number of people here: likely we draft a safety this year anyway. Well, we basically need to at this point.
Cool - thx for the info. Again, basically only one I had covered was Elam, that kid is gonna be a dominator.

I must say that this is a very reasonable contract. My question is how does he compare to his brother in terms of skill set?
He doesn't. His brother made the pro bowl last year and got a contract that pays him 5.7 million this year alone. That should say it all.
