It's not him. Most of you guys will know this player - it won't be someone completely obscure. If I'm still up at midnight, I'll just post the pick around then.
I think he could be a pass rush option, not too sure he could handle coverage responsibilties. As a mid round pick he could be a situational pass rusher, has a high motor and was DPOY in the conference. Very good special team player.
My vote goes to Chris Carter of Fresno State. Pretty sure I've heard his name on this site a couple times, He's a good pass rusher, and he's from Mr. E's favorite school. And rd 4 seems about right for his stock/value.
^^ I would have agreed with it possibly being that certain sooner, except for mr. E stating that plenty of people feel his next pick would be a bit of a reach and since half the board was clamoring for him in round 1 prior to the senior bowl, I don't know that many will feel he is a reach in the 4th. That and beal has been discussed at length and he doesn't quite fit with the mold of E's mock that he has going on.
He has a certain measure of flexibility, which Rex will exploit. He'll never be able to add "typical" NT weight to his frame, but he has tremendous strength, both in his upper body and base. He's the kind of guy who will take on double teams and collapse the pocket, but will never get big numbers. That's what we really need. I've loved watching him in college (always a fan of PAC 10 prospects showing up on here), and he was probably my 2nd favorite DT to watch this year after Sione Fua. He'd be an interesting choice, and not a bad one, but the board would have to fall a certain way. I'd certainly rather have him than Wilkerson. Would two versatile NTs be a problem in Rex's defense? What did the Ravens do with Ngata and Gregg? Oh right, they ran mixed fronts and used the movement to their advantage.
FOURTH ROUND Bruce Miller, 3-4 Outside Linebacker, Central Florida, 6'1 254 I've been watching clips on pass rushers for months now and this kid stood out. He's relentless. The UCF staff lines him up all over the field and he gets pressure from everywhere: both end spots and defensive tackle. Except for maybe Boston College's Mark Herzlich, there's not a more impactful defensive player in the nation in terms of putting his defense on his back. Players get credit for having non-stop motors a lot, but he's the hardest working prospect I've seen in a few years. It's almost like he's had an adrenaline shot before the game - all out on every single snap. Miller doesn't have ideal height at 6'1, but he's incredibly powerful and at times seems unblockable. He'll get pushed out of the play by bigger linemen on some plays, but he battles them all game and wins more than enough. There are some questions about his coverage ability. Miller's definitely not the fastest or quickest player in the world, but he's got great instincts - he'll be in the right spot more than enough of the time. I recorded UCF's bowl game against Georgia, so I could watch AJ Green...Miller stole the show with two sacks and a ton of QB pressures. As a rookie, he'll be able to contribute as a situational pass rusher and on special teams. 40 Yard Dash: 4.85 2010 Season Stats: 63 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions...both returned for touchdowns. PRODUCTION over 40 TIME
I have him rated extremely high - early second round. I don't see him as a good fit in our scheme, but he'll make a 4-3 team extremely happy.
Funny, I was going to ask your opinion of Carter today. I admit, I have not seen him play. I've been reading draft magazines (so thankful they finally came out) and websites. I've seen him mocked to us a few places. And figures since he's a Fresno guy you'd have a good handle on him. So thoughts? And why didn't you mock him to us in the 4th?
Honestly, I do like Miller alot, he's consistent as hell and knows how to get to the QB. But doesnt his speed concern you at all? If he's going to be a situational blitzer dont you look for a quicker guy off the edge? And also I think you could even wait a round and still get him in the 5th thats my opinion. Again not bad of a pick up but when you chose him did you think it was a possible stretch?
I don't care about your opinion. Everyone else can say whatever they want - you know absolutely nothing unless it's printed on SidelineScouting. I think it's pretty damn obvious that his speed doesn't concern me. Again, I said many people would consider this pick a reach, but I have a feeling Miller will go in the fourth or early fifth.
I think Carter will be gone before the fourth. He was a top five player at his position before the combine and he did nothing to hurt himself in workouts. I loved watching him - tough player that finds ways to get after the quarterback. He played with a club-cast on his hand for almost half the season and he still won WAC defender of the year. I'm not sure he'd be a good fit in our scheme. He's definitely put on a lot of weight in the off-season, but I still think he'll have trouble rushing the passer in the NFL. 4-3 OLB might be the best place for him.
