If thats the least you have to say about Sanchez, Im not sure if I should take ur posts any seriously. Every QB has a few bad games in a year. See Manning. He sucked for like 3 straight games and threw 10 ints. Was he inconsistent? No, just a few bad games together. Sanchez had a few bad games, but he managed several game winning drives, some in those bad games. Did u see how our WRs dropped passes after passes all year long? He sucked against Pats n then Phins. We all know the story behind the two ints against Packers that skewed his stats and we all know how great some of the games were called. Even then, Sanchez had a great start to the season, and an excellent post season performance.
Great. So our measuring scale will now be the Holmes trade. I don't think anyone hear thinks he's a top 5 corner. You've got Revis, Nnamdi, Cortland, Samuels, DeAngelo, Leon Hall, DRC...These are most of the top 10 CB in the NFL right now. U think we can trade for any of these for a 2nd rounder? That too being a 'conditional 2nd rounder'.
Holmes is a good scale since he was a troubled player too except Holmes was an even better player on the field. Cro isn't top 10 either. SD wanted him gone in the worst way and they got a steal for him.
I've always been one of Calvin Pace's bigger supporters because he's a reliable, well-rounded player... but he's not an elite pass rusher. Not even close. That's why Bryan Thomas is (in my opinion) the player we need to upgrade the most. If we could even get someone to relieve BT on 3rd downs to straight rush the passer that would be an improvement. I realize that we've tried to do that with Gholston and Taylor but the lack of a dynamic pass rusher is the biggest thing holding this defense back right now. This should be our biggest focus of the offseason after re-signing guys like Holmes and Cromartie.
He wasn't an elite pass rusher when we signed him and he wasn't expected to be an elite pass rusher. I think he's done what we should have expected w/ the exception of last year where he played hurt all year.
Holmes is one strike away from getting a year long ban. Cromartie? I don't think so. Pittsburgh wanted Holmes out. They were going to release him and when the Jets offered a 5th rounder, they jumped. Chargers didn't want to dump Cromartie. If that was the case, then Tanny wasn't going to offer a conditional 2nd rounder. Chargers wanted to trade Cro cuz he had a lot of value in him. He never missed a game due to any reason. He can have 50 kids and the NFL still can't ban him.
Cromartie has his issues as well and SD was happy to see him leave, Pitt was not happy to get rid of Holmes. Pitt got rid of Holmes b/c he and ben were having problems off the field and they couldn't get rid of the QB.
SD did not get a steal for cro...yeah they got a second rounder, but they picked a player who was supposed to go in the 4th or 5th that is probably just a special teamer. I'd say we got the better end of that deal even if cro isnt a top ten player at his position
It's amazing to me after 10 years of the Belichick running the Pats that people haven't figured out that the Pats mostly don't have superstars. McCourty is just like almost everyone else on that team, a great player for the system he's in. That's it. Put him on another team and you'll find out the same thing you find out about all ex Patriots, it wasn't the player, it was the system...
You want to argue that Sanchez wasnt inconsistent. ? He had 6 VERY bad games last year, and 6 great games (2 of which were in the playoffs). Im pretty sure thats the definition of inconsistent. 6 games with a qb rating of 60 or below, and 6 games with a qb rating of 100 or above. Peyton on the other hand only had 3 bad games vs 14 very good ones. Thats not exactly inconsistent. And absolutely drops were a HUGE problem last year. We could of had another 1-2 wins easy if it wasnt for drops. But on the same page didn't Sanchez lead the nfl in dropped ints last year ? I remember in that Denver game alone he got a LOT of help from their secondary dropping easy picks. Im not knocking the guy in the slightest, but hes just not their YET. Am I saying Sanchez was bad, no fricken way but he most certainly wasnt consistent. Hell if he improves HALF as much this off-season as he did last season, we easily have a top 10 QB and several incoming superbowl rings over the next couple of years.
Or your headcoach has to believe his defense needs this player . Only reason jets signed him is because Rex Ryan wanted him.
You do know Rex wasn't the head coach when Jets signed Pace....right? Are you are a retarded Patriots, Dolphins, or Bucs fan?
You also confused this board with a group of posters who actually give a damn about whatever opinion you manage to shit out of your brain. I can assure you that noone cares, troll.
Wow, what a garbage post. That aside, I don't think we have overrated players. I think we, as jets fans, either underappreciate or properly evaluate the talent we have. We might overrate Sanchez at TIMES... but not on the whole, and whatever praise that might be overstated is either validated in his better performances or has shown that he is constantly progressing towards that level. Calvin pace isn't overrated. we all knew he sucked last year.
