It is a concern. Just like it is with Becton but because he's too far in the opposite direction. Being too small or too big are both causes for concern, just for different reasons.
I hate losing Fatukasi because he was a Jets 6th round draft pick who way outplayed his draft position and was a very good player for us. His becoming not a good scheme fit is on the CS, and somewhat on JD for hiring Saleh with his intent to change the scheme to something in which Fatukasi might not fit. He was a rock vs the run, and was much better than most people give him credit for in pressuring QBs. I saw some stats that he was efficient and effective collapsing the pocket prior to Saleh's arrival. That said, there are better DTs out there, so I can live with it. Moses was average, and made a little better because he knew the scheme and had chemistry with his linemates. He wasn't all that, however, and was just a one-year rental. He was a great last-minute pickup that saved the day, but hopefully, we get a better backup OT.
My bad. But I'll be shocked if he isn't there and ready to play at OTAs. Can we have the same confidence about Becton?
Is it not possible that Becton just needs to mature a little and learn what it takes to not only thrive, but survive in the NFL? After all, for most of his football life prior to the NFL, he got by on his natural size, strength and athleticism alone. He probably never had to work all that hard. He can learn to do that. Will he is another matter and a question mark, but again imo shouldn't be a major concern yet. We all know how a lot of great athletes are pampered and not pushed in high school and college. Because of their natural talent they play at a high level, and rather than risk pissing off the talented players or benching them until they learn and fix things, some coaches play them so their own winning record will look better. Maybe "hate" was the wrong word. I guess I've been too influenced by popular culture where if someone doesn't like something or someone, one is a "hater." Sorry about that. That said, I just don't understand your willingness to be so ready to dismiss him. You're not just a casual fan like some. I know you watch college players and make an effort to read up on prospects. I think Becton should be given the benefit of the doubt unless or until he proves this year that he isn't in shape and isn't willing to work hard. If that happens, I will join you in being ready to move on from him, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, as I do with most people until they prove they don't deserve the benefit of the doubt.
