Of course he is under contract with the Jets. Oakland can only have him if the Jets allow him to void it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't saying you are interested in somebody under contract classified as tampering? Isn't this what we got popped for with Revis and New England?

Now, if this isn't tampering, how much compensation would we be entitled to if we were to allow him to go and be Oaklands OC?

I believe it was Mehta that reported that Gruden would be interested, not Gruden officially coming out and saying it. I believe that is the case here

The tampering rules are different with coaches. But hopefully Woody has learned his lesson about allowing coaches under contract to leave with a lateral move.

What is this Manish source that says the Jets would allow it? If this is true, it really does show what a joke this franchise is. Whether or not Morton is any good is not the issue. The issue is, we have him, we were planning on keeping him, and now the competition wants him. That should be an automatic “go fuck yourself”. Anyone remember those jack offs on the sidelines during the rout in week 2?

Seriously. This kumbaya shit where we won’t stand in the way, because Morton has a history with Gruden is absurd.

You know things are really shitty in Jets land when we devote five pages of threads and angst over a potential move simply based on a Metha supposition. We are beginning to sink rapidly Jet fans.
My gut feel is that Morton went over the edge when he heard Bowles got an extension.

The thing that no one here has really mentioned is the difference between how Oakland does business vs. the Johnsons. Davis is reportedly offering Gruden incentives that include a stake in ownership. Now that's how you go after somebody you really want! Instead, Johnson tries to get by with as little as possible. The Jets are perennial losers because their owners are.

I'm amazed that Cimini is not only strongly predicting a split but also predicting a guy that Bowles is interested in choosing as his replacement.....!

I read that article too. The split is coming.

If the Jets can get Difillipo I think it would be a big win. Hopefully Bowles will be hiring his replacement. Gotta hope he doesn’t get a HC job this year.

Morton was a year away from becoming villified anyway lol. It's just the cycle of how fans feel about offensive coordinators.

For stability's sake, I'd prefer he stay. Constant turnover can't be good for anyone.

the Jets wont block it, too many "nice guys" running the show. Oakland could attach "assistant head coach" to the OC title anyway to make it appear to be more than a lateral move.

we are a long way out though, Oak hasn't yet hired Gruden anyway, shoot the season just ended. Which is why I was very surprised Cimini has Morton packing his bags already and Bowles with a replacement already lined up in his article. That goes beyond just stirring the pot. The fact that he even wrote that tells me he knows that Bowles & Morton want a split

I would be shocked if the Jets didn't block Morton from going to Oakland. He's not getting a promotion, if anything he's getting demoted, Gruden calls his own plays. If they don't block it, then it means one of two things.

    1. The Jets and Co. don't really like Morton, which I find hard to believe.

    2. The Jets are just absolute morons, a much more likely scenario

I asked Charlie Weis this past Monday about Morton going with Gruden if he becomes the Raiders HC.

He didn't seem to know who Morton was till I told him...but he did mention some other position coaches that Gruden would grab.

If they allow him to interview for the Raiders OC job (a lateral move) rather than an increased role (HC) then it signifies to me that they aren't truly happy with Morton to begin with. Perhaps Jeremy Bates can step in right away and do well?

I'll believe all of this when I see it though

So what! Are you dare implying that those are better job opportunities than being Todd Bowles' OC?

Hack is likely in the territory of "only being kept around because he's on a rookie contract and there is the most remote of remote chances that he turns it around".

If Grueden wanted to reunite with Morton so badly Johnson/Mac should have offered him the Jets job before extending Bowels. I like Bowels, i prefer consistency but players would flock to Grueden. We need some big time free agents.
