On IR, may need another surgery, went to Europe for treatment but sure let's do everything we can to get him.
He's worth the risk. Some smart team will take the chance. Peyton Manning had spinal surgeries done before he went to Denver two Super Bowls, one championship, a record breaking season later I'd say the risk paid off for them. If Andrew Luck pays off for the Jets he could be a 10+ years guy, the greatest starting QB in franchise history, one of the best if not the best football player to ever play in this town Giants or Jets. Take the chance.
Except Denver didn't have to "Move heaven & earth to get it done.", they signed him to a contract, which had an injury clause, so if the neck injury came back they had an out. To "Move heaven & earth to get it done.", would involve significant draft compensation I am sure, something a rebuilding team should not be doing unless they are sure the QB is fully healed. If he is fully healed I doubt Indy moves him.
If his injury is still a issue a first round pick could be enough to get him. Minnesota gave up a first round pick for the horrible Sam Bustford last year. Indianapolis will be in position to select a QB high in next year's draft they could decide to move on without Luck plus it's been rumored that Luck wants out of there. He's worth the risk.
That would be a totally Jets thing to do...and the worst thing they could do. Combine what he would cost with the certain injuries he would sustain, and it would be an albatross that would take years to recover from. As if they aren't already decades into a recovery program! Even if heaven and earth moved, I wouldn't sign him.
With the holes we have, spending our cap space is not mortgaging the future. Without talent we have no future.
What kind of sense would it make to waste, yes waste, a 1st round pick on an injured Luck? It was supposed to be a basic shoulder surgery but he has been unable to play all year, they aren't even sure what the problem is, and you would be ok with the Jets throwing away a 1st round pick on him?
I've always hated the idea, but I'm slowly coming around to the idea of trading up to get a franchise QB. We will always be destined to get a not high enough pick that it won't cost much to trade up. There's no franchise QBs worth trading for because if there were, the other teams wouldn't be trading them. I think we've finally reached the point now where after this season would be the right time to go for it and we have the youth already in place to make big impacts for the future.
Andrew Luck going to Europe means that all's not going as expected. Now why would anyone want to throw good money at that? "Subjugate" you, you 24 carat phony? You accuse a TGG poster's family member of murdering Martin Luther King and expect that to slide? v v oh but this forum's the place for "your uncle murdered MLK" trash? .
So because the Vikings made an awful trade the Jets should do so as well? That is hardly a reasonable argument.
You really dont know who uncle is? Im done with you. Post whatever you like i will not reply. You must be in the 3rd grade or something.
Because you can't reply, because you ain't got squat. You tell me who 'uncle' is instead of the phony dodge. Uncle Tim? Mr. Charlie? Keep digging kid.. ; ) Or in the words of the late, great Rudy Ray Moore: "I see your lip quivering "Unc", . but I don't hear a cocksucking word you're sayin'." .
I'm somewhere in the middle of the two mindsets because it's risky to give up a ton of draft capital, but given the last 7 years without a playoff appearance, if we don't gamble, we won't be going back to the playoffs anytime soon. For better or for worse, the Jets have likely played their ways out of a top 3 or 4 pick. The QB draft class is odd in the sense that it's the most hyped up in recent memory, but hasn't really delivered on that hype. Most of the teams in front of us need a QB so unless Macc figures out how to scout QB's (not sure if I trust him given Petty and Hack selections) we would need to trade up for the likes of Rosen - even though I personally don't think the Browns will let Rosen slip through their fingers and the only way Jets have a shot at Darnold is if they go ahead and jump up in front of the Giants by trading with the 49ers who have secures Garappolo. The crux of the whole situation is whether Cousins becomes a free agent - whether Macc thinks he's worth going after, and if not, has Macc finally figured out how to scout a QB who can play at the pro level.
It might unfortunately be a difficult year to trade up. The Browns will have the number 1 pick, and I can’t see them giving it up again after they’ve seen how Wentz and Watson have panned out from those trades. Plus, with the amount of picks they have there’s no reason for them to trade down and get more, it’d almost be a joke. The Giants won’t trade us their pick to get us a QB especially since they need one of their own. Imagine the backlash if a QB they let us have was a star on the other side of town for 15 years? In my opinion, in addition to rooting for our tank, we should also be rooting for the Browns and Giants and against the 49ers/Bears. Chicago and SF both already have their QBs and are NFC teams, so they’re the ideal teams to be at the top of the draft for a potential trade with us. On the other hand, there’s no way we get up there if CLE/NYG have those picks. And I’m almost certain the top 2 picks will be QBs this year given what I’ve seen.
Agreed, it'll be almost impossible to trade up for Rosen or Darnold because A) the Browns will realize, despite being the most inept sports team in all of sports that they need to get a QB after passing on Wentz and Watson, and B) Giants are not going to pass up on drafting Darnold if he declares - they need to look to the future with a new coach and GM for 2018. Jets will likely have to settle for the second tier of QB's - the likes of Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, are more in line with who the Jets will likely be able to draft without having to trade up.
If it turns out that Luck is damaged goods so be it. We don't touch that w. a ten foot pole. But I bet both Miami & Buffalo would be willing to take that chance Can just see Tannenbaum licking his chops. I just think it's alittle premature to write the guy off as being done. The whole situation w.Indy seems Shady. You almost get the sense that theyve been headed for a divorce for awhile & while the shoulder injury is significant that's been sort of their "prop" to keep Luck off the field to figure out the future and/or work out a trade. Of course it seems silly to throw away a whole year but Irsay is a funny owner...and if both parties are done w. one another...not hard to connect the dots. If he's on the trading block team's are gonna do medical work ups on him; The Jets should absolutely be no exception. If he gets medical clearance w. no strings attached the Jets should 100% be all over it. Thats a long way down the road though.
there is no QB in this draft that I'd be willing to pay a hefty trade price on. If Luck could pass a physical, that is a player I'd pay the price for tho..
