That a serious question lol? It's easily Marty. Could you imagine Geno in a Schottenheimer offense? Geno prob throws 30 INTs with Schottenheimer
We differ in opinion and that is fine. 3rd and 3, I would of ran the ball, and I know others in the stands that day agreed Its not really handcuffing him, its a smart football play to run the ball. But if I was MM, I know Geno is very turnover prone, so I would not put him in that situation. I guess Geno will learn from his mistakes in scenarios like this, and that is best for his development
I thought Marty wasn't good on Sunday. 10 carries for Geno and 10 carries for Ivory? The run plays with Chris Johnson? The redzone plays?
The red zone plays are the ones I hated from Marty. We were gaining 5 plus yards a pop rushing why not just give it to Ivory And putting in Vick twice for goal line plays I am not a fan. I'm all for the occasional trick play but not in the red zone that close to the goal line.
Yes, that was a serious question. I'm actually surprised that the 2 responses I got were for MM. I too would say MM but I thought a lot of people on this board would say Geno. Maybe I'll create a poll to see what the concensus is.
Remember last year when Jet fans bemoaned the over usage of the run on second or third of 3 or less, and not having Geno run more. Fast forward to the first game of 2014. Now that we have a more confident QB, we are bemoaning the more creative game plan, particularly the run by Geno that caused the fumble. Things must be getting better in Jet land if all we can bitch about is a couple of poor plays and the twice utilized wild cat. I think MM was a God sent, and with another year under our belt this offense will click like gang busters. For once I don't fear failure every time our offense has the ball, I like the more aggressive game plan, repleted with a couple of trick plays now and then. Of course top teams with elite QB don't use the wild cat, but thats them and we are still learning the offense with two QB that can legitimately scare the opposition with their legs and with real QB arms. So for now go for it. I'm sure that if the wild cat scores us a couple of TDs against GB we will be kissing MM ass for his creativity. I think we have something good with this offense.
The ypc number was great, but in reality it was inflated by that TD run Ivory pulled off. Johnson had a good day especially adding the screen pass back into the Jets' repertoire. But his rushing stats were 13 for 68. That's a more honest number. Even Ivory if you take out the TD run was 9 for 31. I am sure that is what Marty was thinking about, not the 6.2 number.
People who don't really know football reflexively blame the OC for any perceived flaws on the offense. I am not saying OC's are above criticism. not at all - other than the Tebow fiasco, having Sparano as the OC was definitely the worst thing going on with the O in 12. But the reflexive criticism is imo an indication of lack of football knowledge.
Since Smith ran it against the Raiders last year, if you look at his per game ypc, it's consistently gone down. By this past Sunday, his ypc was down to 3.8. Add in the lost fumble on a running play and the increased risk of injury, and I expect to see less of Smith running, not more.
I think the coaching staff is not respecting Geno enough. The guy get you in the redzone and then you take away a chance from him from getting a TD. Then everyone will look his stat at the end of the year and say he only has 15 TDs so he much be a bad QB. That's messed up!
huh? they put the ball in his hands completely in the red zone sunday. Some people are arguing too much. Did you watch the game? They didn't take any chances away from him in the red zone and he'd probably have another TD if he didn't fumble in the red zone
He deserves all 4 downs to put the ball in the endzone. Just like all other 31 QBs in the league. That wildcat stuff rare pick up 5 yards. They're grown many playing against other grown man. No place for tricks and gadget.
they ran what: 2 or 3 wildcat plays the entire game?? and one of them should've been a TD. You seem to want to have a strong opinion and yet are ignoring what really happened. Unlike many, I agree with you that the handcuffs should be off Geno Smith when they get to the red zone - that's why I was happy with Sunday's game plan. It's like you are trying to make an argument that is not there to argue.
Agree. I truly believe that as Geno continues to get comfortable in the pocket and his timing/release improves his designed runs will be far and few in between. Add the fact the MM is continuously tweaking the game plan to the player's strength and IMHO by mid season we might see afar more threating and open offense.
Rex .....such a classy guy!!!! He curses, someone's avatar has him giving the finger, runs his mouth, BS 's all over the place and to the press. A regular Tom Landry LMAO. NC and I saw coaches in our day who WON but didn't act like Buddy Ryan's brat. Rex does exude tremendous positive energy especially at game time and his emotionality apparently motivates the troops. MM is good but please convince us you are not a gadget but a WCO coach.
