I fucking hate the wildcat. But that play that Vick threw to Decker in the endzone was very well done, EXCEPT for Vick's throw to Decker. MM looks like a genius if that is on target and Decker catches it and we get 7 out of that.
they did. if you don't keep up with other teams how do you know who was knocking at his door? there is not many coaches who win games with a -2 t.o. diff and 106 penalty yards. i wouldn't root for rex's dismissal
Sorry, but I despise Rex. I think he is a clueless, classless doofus. He's a great DC, but a mediocre HC. The Jets during his tenure have beaten themselves by not showing up for games or showing up flat, and by committing too many stupid penalties more than they did under Herm and Mangini combined. I'd fire him in a NY minute. As for Mornhinweg, I remember reading articles at the time that he was hired that no one else had contacted him and that he had been available for a while.
i hve never seen rex act classless. as far as marty, he was outed with andy reid and didn't seem to be out there too long before we moved from schotty.
The passing the ball on the 5 yard line on 1st down is irking the hell out of me. You got two superstar running backs fucking use them.
I have no issue with having a Vick package. If the coaching staff feels Vick's mobility or skill give us a better chance in a certain situation, put him under center, and have Geno grab a sip of water. Under no circumstances does it make sense to take a receiver or blocker off the field in order to have 2 QBs in the game at the same time.
Guys it's the Raiders. I honestly think they intentionally threw all kinds of looks out there so GOOD teams have something else to plan for besides the standard packages. Every team in football does the same thin against teams they think they can push around. If Vick completes the pass and Geno runs it in instead of fumbling thats two touchdowns and we are not even having this discussion. Wildcat isn't horrible if you have the right personal executing it rather then being forced to use it because your offense cant generate otherwise. Ex: last years team when everyone just stuck 8 hats in the box on every play because our receievers were all broken with a rookie qb and we had no way to stretch the field. Ya. Wildcat looks like shit then. Can anyone even tell me how many time we were even in the WC today? Like 5 snaps? last season we were in the WC for about 20% of our plays on O. I saw a big diffrence...anybody who saw Sporano on the sideline today in spirit wasn't watching the game.
Ummm..huh? Had nothing to do with with the offense not progressing. It's second down and a long three inside the 10. It was scripted, as Geno stated in the presser and its basically just a play just to mix it up. They we progressing rather well. all day long. Hell, it was the first fumble that allowed the second play to work so well with a dude wide open in the left of the endzone...
Geno needs to use his running ability to escape and to slide more. The fumble was youthful enthusiasm and trying to show the fans how tough he could be. I take it as a given. Do not challenge linebackers, Geno. The INT was a pretty good play by a cagey vet. The mistakes were different than last year. I thought Geno threw the ball really well yesterday. More throwing than running, please.
As far as the wildcat goes, it was on and off. The first time Vick lined up next to Geno he was a decoy. Geno then proceeded to force the run and fumble. Then, later in the game, they ran a similar play and Vick was SOOO close to nailing Decker with a TD. It's got potential but I still don't really like it. (especially cuz Decker's on one of my fantasy teams lol)
My only issues yesterday were some of the trick play calls and the Geno 20 yd sack to take us out of FG range. Other than that our O looked really good, we got screwed on that fumble which should have been overturned but again that came about b/c of an awful play call. Geno is a good runner, he is not a guy we should be designing run plays for. Run when he has to.
I liked the first couple of times they ran that inverted wishbone with CJ, Ivory and Powell all on the field at the same time, but they were pushing their luck the third consecutive time they ran it and it ended up being a blown play.
Morningweg called a great game all around. He had the perfect mix of running plays and short passes called. I thought he was very timely in his screen pass calls against the blitz and I liked that he started the game giving the ball to Johnson and when the D was gassed he pounded them with Ivory. The wildcat plays (there was what like 2?) were actually fine. I don't know why people bitch about it. The problem was execution. The Vick pass play was a great call and should've been a TD. The problem was execution there not poor design. The Salas play where he dropped it in the end zone was also a great call and a superbly designed play. Again execution there hurt. If I have to have one complaint it's that they didn't throw a deep pass. But even then they really didn't need to. The short passing game was effective and they were in control so that's okay. Also they did call one I believe in the third quarter and Geno Smith did a great job of recognizing the deep guy was covered and finding his second man, Decker I believe, for a nice 15 or so yard pass. This was one of the best called games by an offensive coordinator we've had in years I thought.
One thing that I didnt like on Geno's fumble (which he was down) was the fact that they had Vick lined up as a wide receiver and Oakland wasn't even covering him. Did not even work as a decoy making it 11 on 11. But I will not criticize Marty Morninwheg solely due to the fact that hes a big reason in development of Geno, and Geno and the offense looks better than a Schotty offense ever did.
I think most of you guys are way off base. First of all we need to keep Vick interested and engaged during the season. I never wanted him here, because I don't think he has the mentality of a real veteran backup and mentor, and burying him on the bench would be counter productive. Since he's here I see Nothing wrong with letting him get on the field for a few snaps each game. I like Geno and I think he's got great potential but let's not pretend we have Andrew Luck under center and weapons all over the field. Any time we can give the defense another weapon to worry about its a plus for us. And this idea that it takes Geno "out of his rhythm" is laughable. He completed 23 of 28 and was a Salas grab away from 24 and another TD pass. I think he managed to cope with it.
Right. I had no problem with the play call itself on Vick's attempted pass to Decker. I think Vick makes that completion more than misses, but I will say it made me wonder if Vick's sharpness might be affected by lack of snaps in practice. But in general, Marty did not use the wildcat in Philly, so I tend to think Ryan is the one who is behind using it. In general there were a couple of busted plays, bad hand offs, and to what extent is that the fault of the OC? Hm. Otherwise I thought Marty called an excellent game. Smith's completion percentage was great, which I think was partly a function of the kind of plays called. Unfortunately Smith's ypa was only 5.5, and that takes into acocunt completions like the 25 yarder to Decker that was mostly yac. Still I can't complain about the choices. Seems Marty is inclined to take hte approach he did the last quarter of the season until opposing D's stop it.
Hated the Wild Cat but the one pass Vick over threw would of made him look like a genius. Im worried we will hurt Our Backup somehow doing this.
Yeah my take on Marty and Philly was that Andy Reid, imo one of the better HC's in the league, had simply worn out his welcome in Philly, and their FO was determined to bring in Kelly, so Marty was shoved out when Reid left. It was more about Reid and Kelly than it was about him. Of course Eagle fans may have a different perspective.
