Like he said in typical Jet fashion they got a touchdown called back.... If they got an interception it would have stood lolol
We all know the Jets blew the game, but it doesn't negate the fact that the refs (who were terrible and sllloowww the whole game) totally botched this call. It's a fact, no matter how bad the Jets sucked in the 2nd half.
It was total slop on the coaching staff's part, without a doubt. I am not arguing that, but the bottom line is only a head coach can call a timeout and he didn't. I didn't know the rules were so flexible.
Sounds like Rex is being a bit disingenuous here- Ryan said that Mornhinweg normally tells him through the coaches' radio headsets that he wants a timeout, and Ryan will alert the official accordingly. "But that wasn’t what transpired (in this situation)," Ryan said. "Whether it was a bang-bang thing or whatever, I don’t know. ... Obviously, if Marty sees something in the thing, that’s an important call, that we want to make sure we’re in the right call at that situation. Obviously, that would be a reason to call it. I just know for a fact, I did not call the timeout. That’s what I told (the line judge)."
I'll say this. Rex should've been on the offensive channel in the headset. It's things like that that people criticize him for. However they had enough time to call a play and relay it to Geno. At that point you have to trust your players. You have one timeout left you have no choice but to save it. MM is the same guy that won a coin toss in OT and deferred because he had the wind. So his in game judgement isn't always the best.
It was one second before the playclock hit zero and the ref had been watching the players the whole time Rex moved to his left. It was all the Jets' fault. There was no way the ref could know that it wasn't Rex in his ear the way that crowd was screaming. Let it go already.
Only the head coach can call a timeout from the sideline. Rex needs to be on the offensive channel when the ball is about to be snapped. There is zero justification for him not to be on that channel at that point.
Games never come down to one play? Really? We clearly watch two different games, that is an absurd statement to make. Time and time again in the NFL, games come down to one play, happens every week. Terrible argument. The overall basis of a game only presents the present situation in the final minutes of play, it does not always dictate the final outcome of the game. Those last few plays matter in a lot of these games. Regardless of the past play within that game.
he runs the D, he trusts his OC to run the O. there's absolutely no reason to call a TO in that spot. Rex deserves criticism for his team always burning TOs but I have no issue discussing what they need to do assuming the Jets get stopped there.
Well...the entrusted MM thought there was a reason to call a time-out And if Rex is gonna be on another channel....then Marty should be standing next to him.
junc, you're full of it here. If the guy in the offensive coach's box sees a coverage stack that Geno isn't signaling behind the line, and the ball is going that way for possibly a screen or something timing based like that, there's no reason to call a timeout in a critical drive like this? Come on, dude. I know you know football. You can't believe that.
Marty or whoever will take the blame. The NFL will not stand up and say the officials messed up. They will be told privately but in front of us and the media they ask a coach or a player to take the hit. Hopefully, our great scribes will not let them get away with it.
