I think the main fault does being to Marty, mostly because Rex said that they usually communicate TOs over the headsets. But not all his fault. Sheldon needs to fucking lean how to keep his fucking mouth shut. He's a funny guy and a great player, but he needs to know his place on the team, because it's common knowledge among anyone with a shred of football experience that no player on the sideline should ever even think of calling a timeout. I don't blame the ref, though. Rex had been behind him before the play clock was winding down, and one second before the play clock hit zero he hears Timeout right in his ear. It looked like a reflex to whistle the play dead. That said, milcus was right last night. Green Bay was allowed to blatantly hold our DL for 3 straight quarters without a single flag thrown. Although the main reason we lost was that Marty called a game that was worthy of Tony Sparano.
The ref was reaching for his whistle before the ball was snapped. I've seen a thousand timeout whistles blown after the ball was snapped.
And it still would not have mattered. The play was dead the moment the whistle blew, no matter what happened after that.
This is my biggest thing. The timeout thing sucks, but weird things like that happen all the time. The INT I was fine with, because the Jets really did break one of the rules. But they were all over Rodgers for the first 10 minutes. Somewhere along the line, the Jets DLine forgot how to rush the passer and the Packers OL got all their shit together? I dont buy it. The fact that there wasnt one holding call in the entire game is a joke. Especially considering I can remember a time when there was a blatent holding and I'm sure there were more.
Yes if Rex called the timeout. It's dead. MM and Sheldon called it. Therefore it shouldn't be upheld. That's my issue.
I also thought GB got away with a lot of potential pass interference calls as well. But they were right on it with the Jets. I don't think it's an excuse to blow that game the way they did though, I just am saying there were bigger things to complain about regarding the refs than the timeout thing
Not only that, no one heard a whistle. If the whistle was blown, where was it? Lol Not one player stopped, both on defense and offense. Not only that, but the timeout was called by the ref after the ball was snapped. You can't call a timeout after the ball is snapped. Timeout should have never been given, and because it was, the refs should have grouped together and overruled the play.
Looked to me that Rex was looking at and walking towards Marty while he was signalling "time out". Rex did not react. I question why Rex and Marty are standing 20 yards from each other at that point in the game.
He saw his coach frantically trying to get a TO and spoke up. I'm not mad at Sheldon about that. I do blame the ref b/c Marty was yelling and going crazy for a while and didn't get the TO, then the ball is snapped and all of a sudden the TO is granted. He did a poor job. I don't believe it cost us the game as I think our D would have let up GW points on next drive but it cost us a chance.
Stop talking out of your ass. I already read two articles where Nelson stated that he heard the whistle and stopped running his route. Edit: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...ackers_but_it_was_marty_mornhinwegs_mist.html Give the superhomer act a rest, Philly Stackz.
"Jets receiver David Nelson knew something was up immediately. He was lined up by the Jets' sideline, so he heard the whistle and saw the line judge come onto the field, to signal the timeout. Nelson stopped running his route, and as he saw Kerley catch the touchdown, Nelson was fully aware that it wasn't going to count." http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...ackers_but_it_was_marty_mornhinwegs_mist.html "Kerley said he had a feeling that the play might have been called back because he noticed the action on the sideline just before the ball was snapped." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...ing-score-jets-loss-packers-article-1.1939500
The ref wasn't looking at Marty, and that place was loud as hell. It's a pretty safe bet he had no idea Marty wasn't just standing around with his thumb up his ass at that point. It's basically what he was doing for most of the 2nd 3rd and 4th quarters. And Sheldon Richardson has no place AT ALL getting into a ref's ear and calling a timeout no matter what the situation. NONE.
Oh man. Brian Costello tweeted that Marty tried to tell Rex to call timeout via headset, but he couldn't because Rex was talking on the defensive channel. That kinda shifts a little blame. Why are you on the defensive channel with the ball and a 4th down for the game? Worry about the play before worrying about what to do if you fail.
I had a real issue with that myself. Why the hell was Marty where he was at all? It was a critical part of the game and he's 20 yards behind the offense yelling for a timeout?
This actually makes some sense, and places a ton of blame on Rex. The offense is trying to tie the game and he isn't even bothering to keep track of it. I get him calling defensive plays, but this is pretty fucking stupid.
In that situation it made sense to hold on to the timeout. If the pass was incomplete or worse. You at least have one timeout to stop the clock when the Packers have the ball. But this is par for the course for the Jets that day.
Yes, it would make sense to hold onto the timeout, but the OC wanted a timeout and it should have been relayed to the HC via headset and called, and either way is inconsequential to what happened afterwards.
