Woodhead only has 9 rushing attempts and a 4.9 ypc average. He only has 7 receptions. That's not enough of a sample set for me. They're trying to use him as a receiver and he doesn't seem to have very good hands. Smith has had a lot more touches and has produced at a higher level.
Smith is a part of that #1 rush offense. He's actually been playing pretty well at receiver this season when given the opportunity too.
I don't mean to say have him pass all the time but just a couple throws here and there would be good. If it works I don't see why making him a secondary QB for us would be such a bad deal. Most good teams need two good running backs, which we have. Having a "spell" qb/rb/wr, although not as frequently getting in games, would keep a defense on their heels.
As much as I want the midget off the squad, he actually has more yards (79 vs. 63) on the same amount of catches (7) as Brad Smith. The discrepancy in rushing attempts (9 vs. 12) is really very small and BS's higher average can be attributed to the fact that most of his rushes are on trick plays, while DW actually lines up in standard formation for his. While I understand what BS brings to the team vs. DW, especially the special teams, it is hard to argue one over the other based on very similar numbers in all facets of the offense.
Most were YAC, but it was still a great play. Having said that, I expect there's a good reason we don't see him pass more.
The less I see of Brad Smith the better. If the Jets cut him I would be thrilled. He is a mediocre Special teamer, a below average WR and a waste of a roster spot. F the wildcat (seminole), option offense gimmick.
you know, last season i appreciated B.Smith's ST play, but was not so thrilled about his use in the offense. I went so far as to say, like you're saying here, that he would be better on the bench than on the field. i'll be the first to tell you i was wrong. his play in this year's offense is exactly the change of pace we expected out of Leon. so, what is it exactly that you don't like about him?
He's actually a very good special teams player and has grown into a decent WR. He's an excellent athlete and can make things happen when the ball is in his hands. I don't understand why people hate him so much. If we cut him he'd be picked up instantaneously.
I believe is ST play is way overrated, and that he is not an NFL caliber WR. I felt it last year and still feel it this year, he is the teachers pet of our piece of shit OC. He is a failed experiment to convert to a WR. And before he went down Leon was running the wildcat (seminole), which tells you something.
we lost a game or two this year bc of special teams, but you're entitled to your opinion of ST. as far as his being a failed WR.... he's come through in some critical situations this year. that's hardly a failed experiment. again, you're entitled to your opinion, and used to be of the same opinion. personally he's one of those players that allow your offense to do things others can't bc of his athleticism. but that's my new opinion.
so your saying, lets not give woodhead more touches because in his limited number of touches he has produced? That is kind of backwards don't you think?
ST lost us the MIA game and that was the one Brad Smith didn't play in. He needs to get more wildcat, it is extremely successful.
I don't think he would ever be considered as a replacement for Sanchez. The suggestion is just installing afew more "Wildcat" plays for him. No one was calling for Ronnie Brown to take over for Pennington.
Brad Smith is a fuckin playmaker, he just needs the ball in his hands. Too many people are too busy bitching about the failed conversion from college QB to pro WR to realize when this guys on the field we get shit done. also if Smith was ever in a stable QB situation (never has been) he might have developed better as a WR. thats just my opinion.
He was a serviceable receiver in 2007 with 32-325-2. He was then relegated to a Wallace Wright duty with a few trick plays thrown in. Why is that?! Either he's not that good, or the OC isn't doing his job.
I wouldn't mind him throwing out of that formation RARELY, only because it would force the defense to honor the pass and would allow him to gain more yards on the ground. Say what you will about his talent, the dude is great in the open field, and usually get decent YACs
the only pass that i remember brad smith throwing from the wildcat is a failed play against the pats on a fourth down i believe. it was a pretty ugly pass from what i remember.
Brilliant post, here's why; Rex is OLD SCHOOL- protect the ball, run it down their throats, play great D. Shotty is NEW SCHOOL- shifts, multiple sets, 'trick plays', things that make the highlite real. Shotty's early season attempt to play 'new school' with Sanchez has been throttled by Rex (red green yellow, run run run) So.... Rex tells Shotty "OK, you love new school, then have at it with Brad Smith, but leave Sanchez the hell alone". Shotty draws up 10 'new school, awsome trick plays' involving Brad Smith under center. Then, during the game, Sanchez runs a mistake free, no gimick, run first offense AND Shotty can send in Brad Smith 4-5 times to run an 'awsome, new school trick play'. Rex is happy. Shotty is happy. Jets win. We're happy! EDIT: :manning:
