It's very unlikely that I would, but I can think of certain circumstances where I might. Reasonable? Under certain circumstances, yes. Legal? Absolutely. The law doesn't care what type of genitals you have ... you're not allowed to attack someone physically without that person being allowed to defend themselves and prevent it.
Sorry, I'm not one of society's geldings that believes the ridiculous common refrain of "there's never any reason to hit a woman". That may have been very true in the 1950s, but today's American woman is not the same as 1955's American woman. They are now taught (by popular culture), at a very young age, that they can be as physically violent as they want and society will largely give them a pass. And they are further taught that if they want to screw over the guy they are with, they can and should be as verbally abusive as they can be in hopes of prompting a physical response and landing the male in jail. I don't like it, but that's where we are in 2015 America. "There's never any reason to hit a woman!" = sorry, no. One excellent time to hit a woman is when you're trapped with her in an elevator, she drunk, she's already hit you in the face once, you've retreated as far away from her as you can, and she's coming at you in anger with a clenched fist. That is a perfectly reasonable time to hit a woman.

So do you think it was reasonable for Ray Rice, who weighs over 200 pounds of solid muscle, to punch a 120 lb woman in the face based on her actions (or lack of) in the video?
I can't speak for others, but I want to see him get his life together. I hate to see anyone throw their life away, especially when they are so talented and blessed, and are too stupid to realize just how blessed they are. Am I pissed that he has embarrassed and hurt the team? Heck yes, but I care more that he's endangering the lives of others. For everyone's sake, I hope that he doesn't kill someone else. For his sake, I hope that he doesn't kill himself, but more importantly I don't want him to kill or cripple someone else because he's a freaking dumb ass. If you'll notice in all my posts in this thread, the punishments I've mentioned were all about getting through to him, getting his attention, and trying to help him wake up and grow up. it won't happen if he's coddled. He needs some strict discipline.
I agree that women should not be hitting men, either. If Ray Rice's wife hit him and threatened him with her fists, then she's a dumbass and was asking for it. That still doesn't mean that he should have or should be excused for doing it.

Yes. If you don't think an adult woman can hurt (or permanently injure) a man that outweighs her or has a significant strength advantage, then I will suggest that you are very naive. All she has to do is catch him in the eye with a fingernail (or a set of keys), or score a hit on the groin, or catch the optimal point on the bridge of his nose and he's taking a trip to the hospital; nobody has the right to attack someone physically (in this instance, for the second time in mere moments) without being allowed to defend themselves. You don't want to get knocked out by your boyfriend? There's a very simple process to avoid this ... don't get drunk, hit him in the face and then, after he backs up and gets as far away from you as he possibly can, come at him again with a closed fist. I have too much respect for women to pat them on the ahead and give them tacit approval for being drunk, completely out of control and physically violent whenever the desire suits them.
