This might be the best post in this thread. I honestly want to say cut his ass and extend Mo asap but part of me actually feels like Bowles could be the man to turn him into a man. I'm in no way excusing his behavior and he should accept whatever punishment is laid down but for his own good i hope he finds someone (if not here with Bowles then elsewhere) to help him turn things around.
Yeah just ignore the endangering the welfare of a child part that he's been charged with. He'll be disciplined by the league before this ever goes to court.
Not true -- Maybe from the legal system, but not the NFL. See - Ray Rice, Greg Hardy, AP, hell even Tom Brady. The NFL has it's own rules and conduct policy that the other factors of the incident can be applied.

There were initial reports on twitter that he may never play again, but after sleeping on it, there's no way that happens. There were no weapon or drug charges which means there's no physical evidence of those aspects, making them circumstantial. In the end, thank goodness no one was hurt..except for perhaps the 12 year old's psychosis. I think another 4 games,reduced to 3, 7 Total is realistic.I suppose the Jets could have him back week 8..That would be great timing as this is right around when the "rookie wall" comes into play.Sheldon could pick up for whatever struggles Leonard maybe fighting through. We all know Richardson can ball. He's only 23..Maybe suspending him w/ mandatory rehab for a year will be just what this guy needs. I am in no way condoning domestic violence or Ray Rice, but I agree with Unhappyjetsfan that Sheldon's incident is much worse. The Ray Rice incident involved 2 consenting adults, consuming alcohol and an altercation. It was pretty clear that his fiance was the antagonist and threw the first punch. Ray should have known better and shown some restraint but alcohol impairs judgement. It still was basically one punch that set her down. Inexcusable yes, but not worse than 140 mph under the influence of weed, with a loaded handgun with a 12 year old in the car. Not even close.
AP beat the living shit ouf of his son. Greg Hardy is a wifebeater, so is Ray Rice. The Patriots cheated. Those are cold facts. I don't see how this correlates to Sheldon speeding. I mean at the end of the day the league can do whatever they want, they could suspend him for a 150 years. Now whether that'll actually happen is a different story. But for the record, I'm not saying the league won't do anything. They might suspend him for another 2-4 games would be my guess. Maybe no suspension at all, if he enters some drug facility or does something similar, whatever might get him off the hook or set him straight and humble him (community service).
As I mentioned in a previous post ... If I'm Woody Johnson, my first call this morning would have been to Curtis Martin. Ask him to try to talk some sense into this jackass ... before he kills his career, or even worse --- himself or someone else. Curtis was a warrior as a player and also as a person. Maybe if he hears it from a HOF'er, who has the respect of everyone in the NFL something might penetrate his thick skull.

Regardless, my point has been that the league can and has handed down discipline for a player under their personal conduct policy (Roethlisberger) before he was even arrested or charged. Sheldon has been arrested and charged, with possibly more charges pending. It makes no sense for some to say "the gun was registered" or "there was no weed found" or "it was only speeding" and claiming the league has no case and that he has nothing to worry about.
I think for it to be meaningful to the Jets players and Richardson, the Jets need to suspend Richardson, not the NFL. I also think it needs to be longer than 3 games. If he hadn't already been on suspension for pot use, then 3 games would be ok, but coming on the heels of multiple failed drug tests? No way. I think the only thing that gets his attention is to suspend him for at least an additional 6 games without pay, and probably even the rest of the season. If he has to sit out the entire season, forfeit his salary, do a ton of community service (perhaps helping to clean up after severe auto accidents, including fatal ones, and drug offenders) do more frequent drug testing, enter mandatory counseling, and be on probation for the next 2 years, then MAYBE we'll get his attention and make him realize that he has to change his attitude. We all know that young people think they're invincible and nothing can happen to them. Make him see firsthand the devastation of families after their sons and daughters were killed in car wrecks because of speeding and drunk driving. Make him talk with young athletes who became paralyzed or who can no longer play sports. Maybe some of these things will make him think and realize how blessed he is, and what a stupid putz he has been.
I've always appreciated his humility in that matter. He even named his first charitable foundation "The Timeout Foundation"
All of the above were disciplined by the league. Not all have held up or will be, but disciplined nonetheless. True.
It's all good, I hear you and am with you on this. I would have been just as mad if this was my son or brother with Sheldon in the car, I would have punched his face in. Golic actually sums it up perfectly and I agree with him as well, this is exactly what I was trying to say. Sheldon thinks he's invincible, he's living a "fast life". This is the call that Bowles could have gotten when Sheldon was speeding. That Sheldon is dead (as well as the passengers). He's lucky that he somehow got away with it and I don't know how, now has to deal with some stupid "speeding" ticket or a slap on the wrist for running a red light when really much, much worse should have happened for his stupidity. If you look at what could have very well happened. If Sheldon doesn't wake up now it'll be soon too late. Whether it's him smoking up his career or crashing and killing people or just him spending the next years in jail for whatever he decides to do. I'm hoping he realizes that now. There's more to life than green paper with a bunch of old guys faces on them. He'd understand that if he had a family or a child to take care of. In a few years he will, regardless, if he makes it that far.
At this point, I think we have to prepare for a 2015 season without Sheldon and anything we get from him is merely a bonus. My question to you is can the Jets field a top 5 defense if Richardson doesn't take a single snap this season?
Absolutely agree that he should be made aware of the devastation he could have caused other people by his actions, and talking to the families of those who have suffered from similar behavior. Any program like that tied with monetary fines would be acceptable and proper. But I'm not sure we should be so keen to have him suspended 6 games to a season just yet. He is a stupid, immature kid who made mistakes that through the grace of god didn't harm anyone. But its not like he intentionally cheated or broke NFL rules like Brady did. Nor destroyed evidence of the cheating. That cuts to the integrity of the game and Brady only got 4 games for that.
