I disagree that he is of no value sitting on the bench injured. IMO his best value to the team is in mentoring Petty and Hack. In being there, watching them play, answering their questions, offering advice, etc. At his age, with his past record, and when coupled with the Jets' questionable OL, imo he has little or no value actually playing in a game. I'd rather see Petty or Hack try to work out of their struggles/difficulties by playing through them.

I agree with you I was just stating that there is no point in starting him to get injured and be on the sidelines injured. Sure be on the sidelines but no need to start him at all.

Ah, OK. I agree with that wholeheartedly. The only reason I can see for starting him is if neither Petty nor Hack are up to speed enough on the new offense that they cant' even function in a pared-down version of the play book.

Yea I'm thinking yes...Did not know this but just saw that it's been 13 seasons since Josh McCown has played more than 11 games in a season. That definitely bodes well to our young QBs seeing starts this season.

So that would mean wether it be due to poor performance or injuries our 38 year old Josh McCown has not played more than 11 games in a season since he was 25 yrs old. Get ready to see your youngsters in 2017.

he should be a montor while on the coaching staff, not the active roster! only the jets waste time and money on bonehead moves.

We need to have mentors on the field. It is written in The Book of Casserly/Wolf.

Does not sound good for Petty. Buster even after seeing Petty play nothing good to say about him.

    Go Hack.

Part of me wants to buy into the Hackenberg hype but then I remember how the Titans tried so hard to convince everyone that Zach Mettenberger was their franchise QB just to draw offers for Mariota. If we don't go QB sin round 1 I'll be a lot more convinced by all the smoke.

McCown is here to get the ball rolling in the new offense. He's the template QB for everybody else to work the kinks out around so the young guy (s) don't get their asses handed to them when they play not so far into the season.

Over/under is 4 starts for McCown in my opinion.
I'd make next guy up good for 8 and then the 3rd guy on the match for 4 and then we're in 2018 draft territory.

All of this assuming we don't get QB fever in the draft. If that happens all hell could break loose.

    McCown a mentor?
What could he offer our young QB's?
He has no credentials to offer.
I bet he starts under the premise that he gives our team the best chance to win, and he does. His experience was gained on the field. Our young QB's don't need all this hand holding and coddling. Once they get a firm grip on the play book, and practice with the WR's it's time to get out there and play.

Petty showed what he is. A goofy back up QB. He had his opportunity; he came out and threw 3 TDs to 7 INTs for a whooping 60 QB Rating.

Signing McCown is just another sign that the GM is still clueless and has learned nothing, so an effective rebuild can't even begin until he's fired which means 5 years best case scenario before this team sniffs the playoffs again.

There was a perfect and obvious opportunity to start Hackenberg every game this season no matter what as long as he's healthy. Shit, start him if he's injured too. That way you can probably lose every single game, and guess what, if he wins enough games to blow the #1 pick with this trash heap of a roster then you learned something useful. Like you might actually have a QB.

But this team is so bad they can't even figure out how to tank properly.

I was actually surprised that Skrine went so far as to lay that out on the table. Almost like a comment a starter makes about another starter. Having tools and executing are different things .. if Hack is ready to compete this year as Skrine thinks he'll be .. it will be a huge positive for this team. Now in the mean time, get us some picks!

Hack's role next year is the Curtis Painter role from the 2011 Colts: late 2nd round pick gets thrown to the wolves after the vet (Kerry Collins) starts the season out 0-fer and makes it clear the team made a passing swipe at respectability.

Also, they're installing a new offense. You really want to watch Keystone Cops out there from the get-go next year? McCown knows the WCO and so things will look smooth if uninspired in the process. With Hack the offense would be moving backwards from day one as everybody settled in.

That's a nice story and all, except Curtis Painter was a 6th round pick. He probably would've never seen the field if Collins didn't get a concussion in week 3. This is a 2nd round pick who is supposed to have a chance to be a real player. Of course that's assuming the GM was competent enough to draft the player where he belonged.

You're supposed to put the season on his shoulders, no excuses. He plays every game and either wins enough games to play the team out of the option of drafting a top QB, or he's toast and you get your guy. Why would you add an irrelevancy into the equation for a 'passing swipe at respectability.' That's a loser mentality, which is the sign of a loser of a GM.

Fans want a tank party, they don't even care about Hack or who can actually do something worth while this season. This season to a lot of fans is completely lost. Br4d unfortunately, another Jet fan lost to the darkside / team tank every year.
