Anyone ever think that maybe Rex is in the players heads. I mean, I understand that RF wasn't with the team last season but most of the defensive players were or had played for Rex before. What really pissed me off and I'm not sure if any of you saw it but after the game it looked like the D line were all giving their game jerseys to Dunbar. I guess it really doesn't make a difference but it really got my balls twisted.
Two days later, at least as this day begins, to me the biggest question mark about the loss as it relates to this team going forward has to be what was going on with the way the Jets covered Watkins? It says here if the Jets had better figured that one out, kept Watkins to numbers closer to the first game, they would have won, and no other singled factor would have made a win more likely. Some here simply blame Revis, specifically that he is getting older and does not have the speed and quickness he used to have. But he played CB for most of the season at a high level. His only bad game before the second outing against Watkins was against Hopkins. Who is about as up and coming a wideout as anyone. And again Watkins had a so so game against Revis in his first outing, so what happened? Revis didn't lose it overnight, and he came up with a personal season high on interceptions. I know people don't like his contract, but is Revis really the goat here? It was clear that Revis played off Watkins, and did so pretty much all game long. That tells me the CS wanted him to do that. Perhaps they did so because they share concerns about Revis no longer being the player he once was. But I think it's more than that. Cimini mentioned in an article that the Jets were concerned about Taylor running free, and so did not want to put the cb's in man coverage. They wanted to have the secondary all keeping an eye on Taylor. I don't know what to make of that. Why would that be necessary? Couldn't they have had just one guy tracking him? Anyway, the point is that the way they played Watkins was a coaching choice. Now the question becomes why the CS felt with all the good players on this D that they had to play it so ineffectively.
Like I told my buddy, I haven't been this angry about a season ending loss since the Doug Brien game. The AFC Title game losses, those teams made great runs to get there. Yeah it sucked to lose but they were fun rides.
Hell no to Geno. We just saw how great it was not to have him out under center. He couldn't beat out a QB with a in season surgically repaired thumb. Fitzy for 2 more years with Petty and QB X getting trained. We have to do this right or it will be a never ending turnstile of shitty qbs.
im not sure he can bring the team back + add to it. we have tons of free agents and probably a few holdouts. it will be a rough offseason for him to work through. we could be a looking a a new left tackle, no wilkerson, no ivory, no powell
Watching the NFL Networks condensed replay, I'd have to agree. Watkins had 11 catches for 136 yds. Shame on us.
We had no business being in the playoff discussion 5 weeks ago so in my mind a playoff loss would have been a tad bit more harsh I can live with a good run and a final game meltdown as opposed to making the playoffs and losing in the AFC championship game
Appreciate the optimism...we are not beating Pitt, NE, or Buffalo for sure based on the last shitshow Now if we retooled on ST with other position etc we maybe stand a chance
If we executed against Buffalo in both games we win both of them.We beat ourselves both times more then they beat us.....It wasn't a blowout. And we just beat NE last week
Exactly,Only thing is all our RBs are free agents ,I see Powell back for sure,Ridleys gone,Theres other RB options in FA and the draft depending on how the CS feels about Ivory..Theres def question marks in that department for Mac and the staff to figure out.I cant wait to never see Quigley and Kerley again,Calvin Pace is 35 hes a goner another welcome site
^ It's certainly possible none of the FA Rb's will be back. But, as much as I loved Ivory, when he was playing and playing well, something tells me the CS would rank Powell a bit higher. Still I don't think Powell is the power Rb the Jets prefer, so they may look elsewhere for that, and bring back Powell to complement whoever else they get.
