Excellent post. Just want to make a few comments ... To me the ages of Decker, Marshall and Fitz are completely irrelevant. These guys just put up career numbers and set the franchise record for offensive yardage. There's no reason to expect the offense not to come back strong again next season. Mangold is still near the top of his game when healthy. Revis and Brick aren't what they once were, but they both have plenty of tread left on the tires ... although I would love to see them move Brick to RT. There's always room for improvement on every team, but really ... the only glaring areas of weakness on this roster right now are speed at LB and the weekly ST shit show. I am extremely disappointed over this loss, and I'm disgusted with the way they played yesterday ... but we have plenty of good football players on this roster. Unfortunately a 10-6 record wasn't good enough for the playoffs ... It usually would be, but not this year ... but you don't win 10 games without a lot of good football players. If you want to see a bad roster, look at our roommates.
Why are we not winning 10 games next year? That's ridiculous to even think that. Our schedule looks tough but there's no way to know how tough the schedules actually gonna be in todays NFL.I honestly expect Mac to try and make a run next year with the talent we have with new additions through trades FA and the draft.I expect next years team to be one of the best rosters in the league,We aren't in "rebuilding mode" Mac just needs to add the right talent to the mix and we will be on our way next year.
Mac addeed talent coming into this year for a song (minus Revis and Cromartie.) Let's hope he can do it again this offseason. If he can make one more Marshall type deal this offseason, that could push this team over the edge and into the playoffs.
Unless a miracle happens, we wouldn't have turned over enough of the roster to have a chance at 10 wins. We'll know after the draft and TC for sure but based on what I saw this year, I don't see 10 wins in the 2016 schedule. Maybe Macc pulls off a miracle draft. Who knows but would I bet on the Jets winning 10 games next year? Nope.. I expect Macc to be measured in his renovation and not completely turn the roster into 20 something All Pros but instead, critical areas of need addressed. So Macc has to focus on the BPA in the areas we need to improve, not just generally. We need specific help in specific areas and don't have the luxury of multiple Dp's or zillions of FA dollars. This draft may well be the critical one for Macc as it will be his second and expectations will be high. We got all gassed up with the 4-1 start and the 5game run but reality smacked us hard in the face yesterday. No need to have inflated expectations next year regarding overall record but instead, a steady improvement in the 53man roster while getting younger and faster. Our day will come sooner than we may think. That day isn't tomorrow..
From what I gather, these are the teams we play in 2016... Home: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Baltimore, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Seattle, Indianapolis Away: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Arizona, San Francisco, Kansas City.. Please show me 10 wins..Keep in mind that 6 of those teams are PO teams in 2015 and one we haven't beaten in quite some time.
The windows closing ,the core of the team is geting old,Macs gonna try and make this team a real contender for the 2016 season .Top 10 offense top 5 Defense this year and with the right moves we will be in the playoffs next year well before week 17.I see 12-4 11-5 next year ,I also predicted 10-6 11-5 for this year and most people laughed in the offseason .
the thing that really bothers me is: texans get yates off the street to play qb and beats us. ravens get mallet off the street and beat pittsburgh. yet, we could not change/find a decent punter, punt returner, or kick returner. heck, if i can get him at a greatly reduced cost, i would even consider bringing back cromartie as a backup corner/safety but primary kick returner.
Haven't you learned after this year not to base things off what happend last year.We were 4-12 last year and due to Blame's and Macs signings we went 10-6.Bowles will get better after his first year and Mac will make additions like last season that will put the team right where we need to be.I have a lot of confidence in Mac at this point
I remember there was an overhead shot of the replay and if Ivory was thrown to in the flat, he was crawling to the end zone.. or at least getting damn close to scoring. Just a bad play to try and hit Decker there.
If 'next season' started in 2 weeks and we were at full strength with our current team plus a 100% healthy Ivory, Powell, Devin Smith, Amaro, Folk, and yes, even Marshall (bad foot) I'd sign up for that in a heart beat. Our 'old players' won't be aging 10 years by next season. Training camp starts in 6 months! Then add in Bowles' 2nd training camp, another FA cycle, 3-5 new players from the draft, and I can get excited about that. Lots to look forward to: Devin and Amaro getting healthy and becoming a factor in the passing game. Enunwa (a young Brandon Marshall if you ask me) playing from snap #1 in a growing roll. Pryor getting even better in his 2nd season playing SS. Lorenzo Mauldin & Reily flying off the edge and getting much better at it. Leonard Williams in his 2nd year being even more dominant. Richardson in his new hybrid role getting even faster/better. New youth/speed from the draft to stock our Special Teams. New punt/kick returner perhaps? New punter perhaps? And what will FA get us? Rebuilt right side giving Fitz even more time to throw and bigger holes for Ivory/Powell/Riddley? The team we were rooting for Sunday is a pretty good team. Let it get healthy with new youth/speed, a 2nd year of experience, and a few prize pieces from FA and we can EASILY win 10-11 games next season.
Totally agree. It's pretty ridiculous that there are only 7 teams in the NFL with more wins than the Jets, and people on here can't seem to grasp that we're a good football team.
Those Watkins' catches are gonna haunt me for years whereas Revis, he probably has already forgot them.
Your making the mistake every Jets fan always makes, they look at the roster the day after the season ends and the way they played in the last game.Look at the roster from the end of last year compared to now ,in a few months the fat will be trimmed and alot more holes will be filled
Go 4-2 in the division Balty, Cincy, St Louis, Indy all at home: 4 wins Cleveland, San Fran on the road: 2 wins There's 10...... With injuries in the NFL we have no idea what will be an easy or hard game. If the Jets are good enough and relatively lucky with injuries we will compete next year, not worried about the schedule
The problem with your theory is that the rest of the NFL won't be sitting on their hands either. This isn't about keeping pace with the upper echelon, its about closing the gap and there's still some space there. Still too much to cover in one draft.
I see Indy as the only confident win and that depends on how much Indy improves. We NEVER play well on the west coast so claiming SF as a win is a reach. Cleveland is the only sure win and only because they're in transition. Cincy and Balt will be really tough games so I would go with St. Lou as a sure bet. I'm saying that we could luck up and win 10 games, but the more likely scenario is 7-9 wins depending on many x-factors we can't account for yet.
Plus Two Million on your Post Next year.....different schedule sure ....we can win plenty of games then possibly upchuck outa nowhere. It's the thinking and mismanagement on the field I am so angry still with the idiotic everything from Sunday..SMH a zillion times Sorry to say the CS can't be trusted......they crashed and burned with a Mercedes group of players outside of our journey to the epic fail QB. The dark side of me wonders what will happen when Mac hands Toilet Bowls a Bentley??? Last time I ever put A Player (Fitz) or CS on a pedestal . The players regressed back to the Houston performance. Their attitude is what really worries me Bowles better get a book on coaching or have hours of Phone Time with Parcells. Old and new players= Execute or be executed This is all gotta change before we all morph into Champ69
