YES!!!!!! We got our best defensive player locked up long-term, SMART move by Mac and co! ...after that ridiculous trade talk around draft time, sanity is restored to our organization!
As soon as the Broncos signed Miller it open the window for the Jets to sign Wilk and it was good to see that both sides were smart enough to realize it.
Awesome deal, so glad to be wrong about this. The low guaranteed number surprised the hell out of me.
I'm relieved to see that Mac and the Jets FO is a lot smarter than the ridiculous NY media that was actually suggesting that our best defensive player in his prime could be traded! (yeah, Mo is a "solid player". So is JJ Watt)
So was it 50+ mill guaranteed or 37 mill theres a big difference. If its 37 thats essentially a two year deal that lines up with Richardson's contract and then we have a choice of the two. 50 + mill is a little different.
I think its a two year deal that lines up with Richardson but if Mo continues to play at the level we are used to, the Jets will be getting a bargain the final 3 years of the deal. I expect Richardson to be the one who ends up leaving now. If so, I am 100% fine with that. We will see though.
Frustrating as all hell to know this team would be ALL IN if they had a halfway decent QB, Fitz or whoever.
This is a great deal for the Jets and it makes it possible to sign Richardson and Williams going forward. Too bad we lost snacks.
The 37 is fully guaranteed, and the 50+ is partial, meaning an injury could de-rail it, playing time (unlikely but still,) or more likely it's partially guaranteed in the later years. For example, the first 2 years are likely 100% guaranteed. Then the final 3 years could be 33% guaranteed over those 3 years. I hope that kind of clears it up, but again I'm just guessing on the construction of it. The details haven't been fully released yet.
"Chalk it up as a coup for Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan, who hammered out the pact just ahead of Friday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. With the sixth-year defensive cornerstone under contract for the next half decade, New York's line promises to be a rowdy beast deep into the future. "I give my all every Sunday on the field and play with so much love and passion for the game,"Wilkerson said in a tweet Friday. "I'm thankful for everything that comes my way and proud to say I'm back on the green and white for a few more years." With Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams alongside him, the 26-year-old Wilkerson is set up for another huge year. He was sensational last season, leading the team with 12 sacks and earning his first Pro Bowl bid as a quarterback-crushing whirlwind who has yet to reach his full potential." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ammad-wilkerson-signs-fiveyear-deal-with-jets
If anyone deserved the money it was Mo. Good for him. We can always tag and trade Richardson after 2017 if need be.
