Sadly, I think this is all too likely. We'll probably end up trading him for a second rounder, which we will waste, and then bitch about how our FO got fleeced.
Well, we do have him one more year at least and that will make him more valuable in a trade, we could franchise him after that..not that we would but if somebody really wants him we might be able get a 1..we tried with Dallas and it didn't work but who knows what will happen in the off-season.
This is where I think elite organizations like the Pats thrive while we suck. Belichick would have seen that Mo wants too much money for someone who is not a pass rusher and he would have told him to take a hike. Especially when we already have Sheldon and Leonard Williams. We fall in love with players and bitch when they don't get resigned in New York. We cut those same players anyway when the team stinks and are saddled with bad contracts. We will probably draft another slow DE and resign Sheldon Richardson for an astronomical price too. We can run a 5-2 defense that way and have offenses air it out on us.
At the end of next year we can release him and take a $9m dead money hit. A trade probably becomes realistic then as well. His 2018 salary is guaranteed for injury only until day 3 of that season, when it becomes fully guaranteed. One of Sheldon or Mo is gone at that point if we can't do a deal for Sheldon before.
