Latest on Red Sox owner buying into Roush: Geoff Smith, the head of Roush Racing, said that the proposed merger with Red Sox owner John Henry's Fenway Sports Group is proceeding nicely, and if the deal is completed it should be by early February. Jack Roush and Smith are negotiating a sale of as much as 50% of Roush Racing to Henry and his company. "It's still progressing, and progressing positively toward closing," Smith said of the negotiations. "It's pretty straightforward on how it's proceeding. Lawyers are looking at documents, accountants are working on plans for operational adjustments that need to take place. All those practical things are in motion. People are out in the garage verifying how certain things work. I would expect by the time we show up in February at Daytona there will either be a deal in place or there won't be a deal at all."(Winston Salem Journal)(11-13-2006)
Ryan selected executive of the year November 13, 2006 NAPLES, Fla. (AP) -- Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan was selected Major League Baseball Executive of the Year by The Sporting News on Monday night, winning the honor for the second time. Ryan, who won the award in 2002, received 15 votes in balloting by 60 major league officials, two from each team. The Twins won the AL Central this year for the fourth time in five seasons. Florida Marlins general manager Larry Beinfest was second with 11 votes. The Oakland Athletics' Billy Beane and the New York Mets' Omar Minaya tied for third with eight votes each. Ryan was presented with the award during a dinner at the general managers' annual meetings.
Mark De Rosa isn't as good as his stats say. He had a 10 day stretch where he hit out of his mind, and that was half of his seasonal production.
Initially, the Daily News, Newsday and SI.com reported that the Mets and RHP Orlando Hernandez have agreed to a two-year deal worth $6 million in total. At his blog for Newsday, David Lennon confirms what Ken Rosenthal originally reported at FOXSports.com, which is that the two-year deal is worth $11 million, thus $5.5 million per season.
Cy Young Award good for Webb... he had a great year and deserves it. Can't wait to hear the ALs (Santana)
I really don't know anything about him, but that's not true; he barely played in April, was terrible in September and mediocre in July, but he was pretty good in May, June, and August: Category G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG TB SF SH HBP IBB GDP APRIL 3 5 0 1 0 0 0 2 2 2 0 0 .375 .200 .200 1 1 0 0 0 0 MAY 27 95 20 31 13 0 3 13 9 17 0 1 .396 .558 .326 53 0 0 2 1 1 JUNE 26 108 13 40 11 1 0 10 6 19 2 0 .409 .491 .370 53 0 0 1 0 1 JULY 26 102 14 26 5 0 4 15 6 19 1 0 .303 .422 .255 43 0 0 1 0 5 AUGUST 28 110 21 36 7 1 5 25 9 22 1 1 .375 .545 .327 60 1 0 0 0 2 SEPT-OCT 25 96 10 20 4 0 1 9 12 22 0 2 .309 .281 .208 27 0 0 2 0 4

He's a bust waiting to happen. He's struck out 100 times pretty much every year in Japan, I can only imagine what he'll do against top MLB pitching.
Cubs re-sign Henry Blanco ! We're this close ]---[ to bringing back ALL of our LAST PLACE team from last year.
So Wagner finished 6th in the Cy Young Award voting. Another closer finished second. I made my preseason baseball picks on April 1. I picked Wagner for the NL Cy Young Award. People had a lot of problems with it. Then, at the end of the year, it was brought up once again after I noted how in April I correctly called for the Cardinals to win the World Series. It was as if predicting Wagner to win the Cy Young Award was akin to me taking a shit on your living room floor.
