The winner of the Matsuzaka bidding will probably be announced around this time tomorrow according to the Japanese media. This is not official, only a rumor.
The two could not possibly be more different if one of them was a blind hermaphrodite amputee with Down's Syndrome.
That Rangers rumor is a bunch of BS, though. Just shows you how mlbtraderumors.com has, and always will have, not one shred of credibility. http://boards.ign.com/baseball/b5104/130338016/p7
And you know this based on? Youtube clips? Both will be overpaid, both are from Asia, both are pimped by Boras. The Rangers should know better. Not saying the dude isn't goning to be good. It just seems that everybody the Rangers throw money out end up becoming a burden.
http://www.boston.com/partners/worl...889&autoStart=true&mute=false&continuous=true At around 1:05 the woman says the Angels are the team that has the winning bid. If I knew who the hell she was, maybe I'd consider it legit (also, if she could do the not-so-difficult task of pronouncing his name.)
Based on: Matsuzaka is a 26 year old rookie who has been DOMINATING a league that is rated as slightly better than AAA and Park was 29 year old who had pitched 5 semi-decent years in the NL. Park topped out in the low 90's, with a decent curve. Matsuzaka is generally in the mid 90's and has been clocked at 98. He also throws two breaking pitches, including an amazing curve, a sinker, and a forkball/change. Plus Matsuzaka has pitched very well against MLB hitters when he has faced them.
I hope he is signed somewhere other than new york.I don't want either the mets or yanks to get him.this way every freakin day I don't have to hear about him on the radio.
I heard from a guy I know that is a beat writer for a team in the NL West. He told me he heard from somebody within his organization that an AL West team won the bid and he thought Texas was the winner.
The 2 latest Matsuzaka rumors: 1. Two Japanese tabloids reporting there is a lot of tension in the Seibu offices, as word is starting to come out that the bid may have been considerably less than the $30M+ expected. Infact, it could be half of that, only a little more than what Ichiro's posting fee was. 2. A few unconfirmed, unreliable sources are saying that the Cubs may have won the bidding at $28M (which would totally contradict what the word in Japan is.) However right now this rumor has been almost totally shot down.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_y...ARvLYF?slug=ap-dodgers-drew&prov=ap&type=lgns ^The AP wire on Drew. The type of numbers that he can put up would be a great alternative to throwing the mint at Soriano, but he'll probably get hurt in the first year of the contract.
I would think if this is the case one or possibly both of these happen. A) Seibu decides to keep Matsuzaka in Japan and let him not negotiate B) The Yankees did not win the bid and may not have even bid at all My thinking is the rumor is not true.....
Looking at these numbers make me think he might not be all he is cracked up to be 2006 17-5 2.13 200 186.3 2005 14-13 2.30 226 215.0 2004 10-6 2.90 127 146.0 2003 16-7 2.83 215 194.0 2002 6-2 3.68 78 73.3 2001 15-14 3.60 214 240.3 2000 14-7 3.97 144 167.6 1999 16-5 2.60 151 180.0 Yes he has had lots of K's but he look slike he may have some injury problems and had some pretty high ERAs in the past....
