Thats a great move by the Astros and I called it back in October, Lee must love the warm Texas summers and the lack of a state tax.
Lee is a 30 year old in a 35 year olds body. Tremendous offensive force tho. He will be massive in that ballpark.
The question now becomes is it more likely Petite and Clemens go back to Houston now that they have signed one of the big name FA's to try and compete. They were close to winning the division last year and were near the bottom in offense. That lineup could be deadly if Ensberg finds his swing and Berkman can stay healthy. I think Jason Lane is going to have agood season as well and Biggio will be back to .... well be Biggio.
SI.com's Jon Heyman believes the Red Sox and J.D. Drew are close to a deal that could be announced within the next week. According to Heyman, several major league executives who were bidding on Drew said Saturday he is ticketed to Boston. There hasn't been any word on the money yet, but Drew is likely to get at least $56 million for four years. $75 million for five years might be more realistic. Nov. 25 - 9:53 pm et
5/75 for Drew? Incredible. I like Drew, but the city of Boston is a horrible place for him to play. If there's one player in MLB that has a personality horribly fit for Boston or NY, it's Drew. Not to mention his injury history.
also Philadelphia I don't understand why the Red Sox would want that guy. Will be another 86 years if they make moves like this.
I don't want him. People think Manny misses too much time? Wait until Drew plays his usual 100 games. We might as well have just kept Nixon.
The Orioles and Danys Baez have reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $5 million-$6 million per season. It's not the $7 million per year Baez was asking for, but it's good enough to get him to pass up chances to close elsewhere. The 29-year-old Baez looks like a better addition to the Baltimore pen than Jamie Walker. Although he's coming off a poor year, he's proven that he can handle AL East competition and he's been durable. In this market, it's a reasonable contract. Nov. 26 - 10:41 pm et According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers have emerged as the favorites to sign Randy Wolf. Wolf is apparently willing to take a lesser deal to head home to Southern California. The move would give the Dodgers a rotation of Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Wolf, Chad Billingsley and either Mark Hendrickson, Hong-Chih Kuo or Brett Tomko. However, the Dodgers still might either re-sign Greg Maddux or bring in Jason Schmidt. They could then possibly trade Penny for the outfielder they desire. Nov. 26 - 10:37 pm et
I'm with you, I question this move, shouldn't the Sox be more concerned with making it look like you are gonna sign Matsuzaka instead of just blocking the Skanks from doing so? (Which it has become extremely apparent they were doing)
According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Indians and David Dellucci have agreed to a three-year, $11.5 million contract. A year longer than we would have preferred, but the money is definitely right. Dellucci has finished with OPSs of 879 and 899 the last two years, qualifying him as one of the better hitters on market. He does belong in a platoon role, but that's fine, as the Indians have Jason Michaels to split time with him. Also, he is likely to miss time due to injuries while being asked to play left field rather than DH. The signing would seem to block Trevor Crowe, but Dellucci's contract should be moveable when Crowe is ready to take over in left. The Indians will now have to decide whether to go with Ryan Garko at first, Shin-Soo Choo in right or some combination of the two, with Casey Blake moving back and forth between the positions. It'd make sense to stick with Garko at first base and use Choo as a fourth outfielder initially. Nov. 27 - 7:37 pm et
According to Jon Heyman at SI.com, the Hanish Tigers accepted a bid of $25 million in exchange for the negotiating rights to LHP Kei Igawa. Multiple reports had suggested that teams would likely bid up to $10 million to speak with Igawa. The Arizona Republic reports that the Padres, Cubs, Yankees, Mets, Indians, Mariners, Athletics and Diamondbacks are among several teams that bid on Igawa.
$25M bid for Igawa? Atleast when Boston bid an insane amount for Matsuzaka, they did it for a possible ace pitcher. Igawa would only be a solid #4 if he was in the NL. I can't imagine that bid being the Yankees. Probably some NL team, who figures since they're in the NL, his upside could be solid #3.
Orioles making a mad bullpen run with Walker, Bradford, and Baez. Probably will wind up being three crappy contracts. Go Angelos.
The thing is if they O's tank he can deal them for prospects. Signing Pen guys is not a bad way to go for a team that needs so much.
 my reaction also, when the report came in that someone had won the rights to Igawa i was afraid it would be the Mets, thank god it wasn't.
