Houston was the clear #1 RB today, and looked very good. Blaylock and Washington got some reps in too, but it's obvious to me at least, that Houston is the guy until Martin comes back.
I pay 50? a day for the NY Post, any chance that would be enough for either TBird or MM to do this full time??
Yeah. I've been kind of pushing for this. A lot of people are of the opinion that Houston can't be a reliable starter, but we'd never know unless we try. This is going to be a big experiment year, so we should use him wisely. T-bird, how do you evaluate the RBs in TC. With the soft tackling and getting out of the way of the RBs that takes place, I really don't know how to judge the yardage, etc. I mean, I can see the run, the vision, the holes that open up, the shifting of the feet and all that, but I don't get a true feeling of the action that takes place at the lines in Training Camp.
Great report, guys. Hopefully this'll be more of an everyday thing because this type of football news is what we've been waiting for. Can't say that I am really surprised with any of the news, especially Chad. Damn, this sucks! BTW, did anyone notice Leon Washington out there? if so, how was he?
Excellent reports - thanks to both MM and T-bird. I am very interested in Houston, Robertson, Thomas and Pouha and would love to hear more about them in the future. At least one of those players has to step it up a HUGE level if we are going to be successful.
A question for those who went... How did Eric Smith look? And what about Robertson at NT, hows that experiment looking? And finally, whats the situation at RT?
oh ya - I think MM mentioned it, but whoever offered to pay attention to the Mangold-Robertson battles - I am very interested to hear what you say.
MM, you make a great point. It isn't easy to gauge players from field level, even more so with the linemen. That's why they put the cameras on scaffolds! What I was looking for with Houston was to see if he appeared to be quicker this year, and he does. It looks like he's lost a little wieght too. We did get to see him hit some people today though, and I liked what I saw. He was just exhausted when I met him.... his glove was soaked when I shook his hand. He really creamed someone in that one on one tackling drill, but I couldn't tell who it was he rocked into next week. For me, today was about watching who was with the first team for most snaps. To give a decent report on any one player, other than the ones who make some plays and stand out, it's very difficult to do without really focusing on that one player.... which means you can't watch much else. I don't remember Smith standing out in any particular way at S, but he may have had a good day, I really can't answer that now. What really caught my interest today on defense was Johnson and Thomas.... both looked good, and were on my side of the field, so they were easier to see as well. It's also hard to see how the DRob Mangold war went. I've found I have to go to at least 5 sessions before I can really get a feel for a lot of these battles.
Good point on the angle of the scaffolds. You can bet Mangini will be watching all the film and making the players watch the film too, which may be why EM has scheduled less two-a-days than Herm did. Give them more time to review and discuss the stuff on film. Sounds like this camp is vastly different than the camp I saw last summer. Can't wait to get there next week!
Well damn Im disappointed about Chad big time but i mean its the first day of the camp. There are positive and negative ways which I look at this. Positive A) Its the first day of camp, maybe he needs to get into the flow of things B) Hes rusty Negative A)How could he be rusty when his NFL career is in the balance? B) Maybe his arm is just shot
MisterMoss TBird thanks for the info. You guys are doing a great job. How is Brandon Moore looking? From MM pics he seemed out of sorts. I know people on the board ain't that high on him but I've followed him since he was with the Claymores in NFLE. Good to see guys that work hard and take their shots earning a living in football. Same for Ryan Myers.
