Rex counts on a shutdown DB to free up a Strong Safety to play the box, blitz, cover the TE, etc. We assume he would count Milliner as his shutdown DB and apply him to the #1 WR, leaving Patterson as DB2 covering WR2 with Free Safety (Pryor) help. If Milliner is not 100% and can't shutdown the WR1, then Rex can switch Milliner to WR2 (easier assignment) and move Patterson/Pryor against WR1. This still gives Rex his shutdown corner (against WR2), gives him a dbl team against WR1, plus frees up a safety to play the box. There's so many ways Rex can switch things up I'm not too worried. Curious to see who Idzik brings in to help out.
Hey, great day for you. You have found a message board ally! I am far from the most negative poster here, as you well know. I am pretty much down the middle. I have comparable optimism for players like Coples and to some extent Davis. I love the DL. Pryor's concussion is concerning, but if he stays healthy he could be a big contributor. I expect big things on O from Ivory, Johnson, Kerley, Decker and perhaps even Sudfeld and Nelson. And Vick if he's allowed to play. But anyone who's been just fine with the FO's handling of Cb this off season is in fact an FO Homer.
No one said that Milliner's problems were EITHER injuries or being a rookie. Wtf? But being injured did not help him to be sure. Rex even said so last year.
Just remember about message board allies. One day he is going to say something you disagree with. Probably quite soon given who he is. Then you have a choice. Either turn on your buddy, or keep quiet and let the stupid comment pass, which is inauthentic and contrary to the purpose of a message board. In short, your giddiness over having an ally will eventually come to an end. Enjoy it while you have it.
McDougle showed up to camp overweight, per Rex. That'll have an effect on the knee ligaments for sure. Pretty disappointing that a guy who missed almost his entire last season and fell in the draft as a result would repay the team that did take a chance on him by showing up overweight. These guys need to learn to be professionals.
Depends on the opponent. There are certainly teams out there whose wideouts are close enough in talent that if you can't guard one in man coverage, the other is not going to be much easier. Anytime personnel issues prevent Ryan from fielding the kind of D he wants to play that is an issue.
You know posts like this are merely ad hominem attacks. Try to keep to substance. I am not the least bit anti-Jet. The Jets are pretty much the only team in any sport I really care about. I am just not willing to give current ownership and management the rah rah treatment no matter what they do, no matter how stupid, like people such as yourself do. The fact is there WERE moves the Jets could have made to shore up Cb better than they did. What started out as an obviously weak part of the roster as camp began has now gotten much worse due to injuries to two players with a history of injuries, as well as Patterson. Yet you seem to be saying that no one could have predicted that the cb's on the roster were not going to prove adequate one way or another. Sometimes it pays to be skeptical.
If I give them the rah rah treatment then you give them the opposite. The truth is never in the extremes its always somewhere in the middle. They swung and missed on Vontae Davis other than that they did not want to spend on B and C list free agents.
Rex tailors the defense based on his personnel, not the other way around. I have faith that Rex can field a good defense even with our 3rd/4th string rookie CB going down.
Rex has a record of wanting to have good Cb's who can play man coverage. Sure, once the roster is set, he has to play who is on it. But that's not the same thing as saying it's all the same to him.
Coming off of major knee surgery last november. His health is just as much a question mark as the others.
I'd like to see a few of the CB's get a shot before we really panic. It's not as bad as some of you guys are making it seem.
Well it's him or Samuel. They should at least bring him in for a workout. Low risk. His rehab was ahead of schedule.
Well, let's try and be optimistic. Try as we might, the thinking about Patterson was that he would most likely be helpful starting until McDougle was able to take over. That he could stay healthy in the interim. The plan for use of McDougle in such a way is now out the window. Still, if Patterson stays healthy, he might provide decent play, but not very good. Milliner is still a cause for optimism. He is concerning for getting injured and what that means about his durability. And he may well have his progress pushed back due to missing time playing. But he may not miss any regular season games, and imo is still a very promising younger player who can still develop into a real star. And now there's talk about Allen playing Cb. really? I don't know what to make of that, but we can't rule it out. He looked good at times last year. But can he play outside in man coverage? Wilson is the slot guy, and Walls and Lankster are bench players. Best I can do.
