No way. He's the starting corner and didn't play half the game.....that's being benched. If you're the starting corner, you start in all situations...they are the best person on the team at that position....
Ugh. I don't see any reason why Saban would be more successful with the Jets than he was with the Dolphins. Also Saban is already in his 60s, so there's zero chance of him being the coach long-term even if he did have success. And then, if they do fire Rex, Saban will make the Jets trade their 2nd and 3rd round picks to move up to the #5 overall pick to draft Luke Sanchez (Mark Sanchez's secret younger brother. He would easily have the best mustache of any QB in the last 25 years, and that's really what counts in this league. Mustache points. Also, his "first down" celebration move is the time out gesture.) The Jets are much better off if they draft some WRs and TEs in the first two rounds, trade down to get more picks, bring in some free agent WR and safeties with the $40m in cap space we will have next year, and let Rex do his thing on defense. If Smith ends up being a mediocre QB, the Jets would become a powerhouse by 2015 or 2016, with a top defense and a good to very good offense. If they blow up the coaching staff then congratulations, look forward to a few 5 - 9 win seasons while we churn through mediocrity for the rest of the decade.
Agree 100% We get rid of Rex and we can look forward to scrapping all the good pieces that this team has already and starting new. Knowing this fanbase, this team would have a terrible transition to completely different coaches. Not because they love Rex, but because they can love a guy for a game, then want to kill him the next. The moment this team isn't doing something and starts losing a lot, people start calling for new everything.
CB is RARELY "NFL ready talent" coming out of the draft. It's one of, if not the toughest, positions to adjust to when moving from college to the NFL. I think Rex was right to bench him as he was getting sloppy, but I see that as part of the learning process. I have faith that Dee will develope, but for a CB it won't be over night.
I don't really like drafting DB's in the first round. They only can cover 1 guy and if they are any good ? Then they just don't throw at their guy. This is all Izdik. Not rex. Izzy had all the power drafting. Drafting millner was a stupid thing cause he is always gonna be compared to revis.
No offense, but to avoid drafting a player simply because he is going to be compared to Revis (or his predecessor) is stupid. When the Ravens drafted a S to replace Ed Reed or a LB to replace Ray Lewis, was that a stupid thing as well? I mean after all fans are dumb enough to compare them to their predecessors right? NOT. I mean by that philosophy why ever draft a LBer or WR in the first round? I mean Linebackers can only tackle one guy and WRs can only catch one ball. :lol: Also taking away a team's #1 WR is a good thing. Not sure if you realized that. It's not just a numbers game.
I'm all for keeping Rex, 100%. This franchise needs stability so that it can build around a reasonable identity. Defense first can be just that. W/ Rex this team will always have a defense. That's half the battle. That said...this idea that this team's young nucleus is tied to Rex..while partially true leaves out one very real possibility:the retention of Dennis Thurman. Now Thurman could be both a HC candidate OR stay on as DC. Either way..he hlds the exact principles of Rex. Now perhaps he isn't quite the character or playcaller, he still would employ a defense capable of using the unique beasts that we currently have throughout the roster. Just something to consider.
I'm guessing the Jets have a draft board that rates each player. When you're a new GM with a rebuild in front of you the best move is to follow your draft board. I'm guessing that's what they did when they picked Milner. Lots of second guessing here but I would bet a large majority of the 32 teams draft boards had Milner as the number 1 player left when the Jets drafted. If the Jets didn't do that I would be very concerned about Idzik.
1. I didn't like the Milliner pick 2. That said the guy is a rookie and had NO Pre-Season or T.C. . I'm not going to throw him under the bus if he can't start on a complicated D from Day 1 in the NFL without any real training. We'll wait and see... boy did I want Warmack though.
I would like Milliner to play the nickel position as he is pretty big for a CB and can be physical against those slot receivers. Seems like he has a lot of physical ability and was getting away with it in College as Alabama's team in over-all is superior than others and overwhelmed all those sub-par QB's who can't even get an invite to NFL camps. Dre Kirkpatrick is in bench in favor of PacMan in Cincinnati. Those Alabama players just won't cut it in the NFL just like the old Oklahoma team. Their defense was top notch but never turned out good players for the NFL. Alabama will never be like those Miami teams.
I'm not too worried about him. This is a pass heavy league now and he has gone up against Tom Brady and Tampas explosive receiving core. Tough job for a rookie who didn't participate much in training camp. He will take time to develop, but I think he will be a solid guy to have next to Cromartie. Kid has shown promise.
Remind me how having a CB that locked down Pittsburgh's best WR tonight worked for the Bengals? Take out the garbage time completions and Big Ben completed maybe half his passes because the other scrubs at WR couldn't get open to save their lives. Take away a QBs favorite target and all of a sudden they are less sure about throwing it (Unless they have a very strong WR corps). Are their #2 and #3 receivers definitely getting open and going to make a play? They no longer have that safety valve.
Two parts: First, I can see Idzik going Defense AGAIN in the 2014 draft, especially if a top pass rushing OLB and a great Safety are within reach. With a young, talented front 4 plus Coples, Harris, and Davis Idzik could get the last pieces to a dynasty of a defense that could carry any team for the next 10 years. This has to be very tempting. But this strategy only works if the Offense has jelled just enough to hold their own with a better 0-line that's getting better each week, and Geno and his throwing ankle starts playing less like a rookie, and the 3 Musketeers in Ivory, Powel, and Goodson start racking up some 100 yard games,and Tone's routs start looking a bit crisper, and Hills starts having good games, and Kerely, Spadola, and Gains all make measurable gains through on-field experience, then... ,,,Idzik MIGHT be tempted to stay with Rex and finish off with the high draft pics necessary to give his Jets the top rated, youngest, most dominating defense in the NFL for the next 10 years before turning his attention 100% to Team Geno.
