Subconsciously or not, I think the jets OL just plays a LITTLE better when Zach Wilson is not on the field. Probably not a big difference, but I think even the run blocking is little better. I know it makes no sense, but Zach IMO is just not a leader of men, nor does he inspire his teammates-- especially when he has a day like he had against the Pats (2nd game) and then quips that he did not let the defense down. 30 years ago (1992) the jets played Browning Nagle at QB the entire season and he was a carbon copy of Wilson--cannon arm, too short, no touch, couldn't read a defense, and just generally looked lost. Unlike Zach, Nagle HAD sat on the bench his entire rookie year (1991). carrying a clipboard. One year of Nagle at QB (1992), and the jets traded for Boomer. Nagle was a backup for the jets the next year, and then caught on with somebody else without success, and was soon out of the league.
Still bad enough for Mike get his ribs broken. Guys, the line stunk, it absolutely sucked lately. I know we want to shit on Zach for all the problems, but OlIne is playing like total garbage in general, and no it is not Zach that manipulated them into doing so. Mike's ribs is the proof. Streveler also was a tuckling dummy last Thursday. Granted that's why he was brought into the game, but still. Maybe it's the coaching. It seems everyone on the line is playing worse than last year.
Don't know how well this approach has worked out since Jimmy Gee has nine injuries in the past seven seasons
He actually avoided the hit against Miami when he got hurt. I think he stepped wrong when he was trying to run. Some players are just injury prone.
I disagree. Leave his ass uncovered but his rib area should resemble the little kid from Xmas story when his mom sends him out in the cold
I hope the best for Mike White. I think there is another factor that should not be forgotten with respect to him taking hits. Peyton & Eli Manning and Tom Brady were among the best I have seen being able to realize when it is time to turtle/protect themselves from the hit and live to fight another down, another series, etc. They knew/know, you are no darn good to your team watching from the sidelines in your street clothes. I'm not sure if Tom Brady possessed such wisdom when he was trying to ensure the Pats would go with him instead of Drew Bledsoe. I think a large part of the problem for White is "another down, another series, etc." has not been guaranteed to him (nor has he been in any position to expect as much), and I believe that has been reflected in much of the commentary from current / former players, and opposing players who watched him play that game in Buffalo. I heard "That's a man playing for his career..." countless times when folks were talking about his fearless play. Maybe the prospect of not getting a quick hook these next two games enables him find the wisdom in better protecting himself - even at the expense of the success of a particular play? If he does (and gains another 20-30 pounds during the offseason) he just might have a career as a starting NFL QB for a few years. If not, he will spend the next few years bouncing from team to team (with stints on the injured list) as a well-respected backup QB. Still a lucrative career, but not the one he might have if he knew how to better protect himself or if he was a little less reckless taking hits.
Right now Saleh is saying Flacco is the back-up. He basically said Strev may be last minute activation is any at all because other players are getting healthier and there is fewer spots on the roster. Honestly, with the way OLine is playing, I think Strev has to be there. This OLine killed White, and in the same game in just a few snaps Flacco got hit and fumbled too. Zach and Streveler were not done any favors either in the last two either.
When ZW is in there the defense has routinely put 8 guys in the box. There was no respect given to the passing game. I believe that's part of the problem the past two weeks.
Off topic but MIA should shut Tua down for the year. What's this his third concussion this year? Not good at all.
Yea and the delayed blitz kills him. Belichick gave the league a gift by showing this off. Wilson holds onto the ball so stack the box and delay your blitzes... Not that the rest of the league was shaking in their boots but this was the execution on film for all to see Having White back there making quicker decisions will help with that. Still would like to see some push in the running game from the $40 million guard though...
I think they will have to do it. I mean 3 concussions within 3 months? 4th one may turn him into a vegetable. Give him 8 months to completely recover until next Sept and hope he can stay concussion free next year. The guy's life is in danger here, not just career. I doubt even Mike White's doctor will clear him to return within a few weeks.
Tua's career is most likely done. He's dealing with a very serious issue that can be life or death and it's happening over and over to him. Very dangerous.
Th opposition knows exactly the weakness in our OL. And with White there they will come after him hard to force his throws', because they know exactly the offensive game MLF plays with him at C. Just watch the three games with Mike. MLF abandons the run at the first sign of trouble, and if he does Mike will be put at at risk. This is not a 80% pass 20% pass strategy like in the past. Time to open up the running playbook and a mix it lot of short passes for Mike to stay healthy.
