I remember I was excited about Nagle, as O’Brien was at the end of his career, and Browning could throw a football through a brick wall. Apparently though he had no game acumen whatsoever. A shame because he had the tools. Didn’t know how to use them though
Agreed. That said, if JD didn’t sign Flacco, with the Jets’ luck, White would get injured and Johnson would starting!
Holy Shit I just realized that White did all this with his #1 receiver out. All the more impressive. Plus 1 of those picks were not his fault and even the 2nd was questionable so its good to know that even if he does make a couple of bad throws that he has it in him to come back from that. Its not a stretch to say both the receivers could have caught those balls on the picks and hed have a clean game.
good news is we only wasted a 6th round pick because no way Flacco is getting the playing time to turn it into a 5th.
ummm he knew thats what we had to start the season and said he was comfortable with White as the backup, until he really NEEDED him to be the backup...
Yes with Wilson starting. After the injury he went from 3 QBs to 2. Any GM at the point would bring another QB into the fold. He brought Flacco back for the experience and is relatively cheap. That’s not panicking it’s a move out of a new necessity. JD may even recoup that pick with another deal before Tuesday…
Thank god for whatever the personal reasons that Flacco couldnt be here (as long as its nothing serious) in time to start or we miss out on this glee.
Have to say, his throws. Who was it...Chris Simms? One of the Simms kids. Remember that preseason run he had? Its the last time I have seen anything that just surprised at that position but it fooled few. He just...you could just tell there were some smoke and mirrors going on. Today? Kind of blew me away because some of these throws...some of the decisions he made were just real. 37-45 and two of those were int off receiver hands (and thrown too hard) and 2 were intentional at the safe receivers feet to throw it away. Doesn't leave too much room for bad throws on what's left. The touchdown to Kroft was really special. Looked off two receivers and still spotted Kroft in his route for a touchdown. 4 receivers with at least 5 catches. 10 receivers total with a reception. I dont know. Chances he impresses against the Colts goes big time against a guy in his position but if he does...if he has another game? Going to open up some questions. Big Wilson fan but got to go with what the eyes are seeing.
I am going to enjoy the win today, and the next few days. That was one of the best first start by a QB, forget Jets history but NFL period! Whether he’ll turn into a pumpkin next game or not, the key is to develop him for the future as a solid backup to ZW. One thing certain, White is the QB for Thursday. One game at a time.
I just watched again and I agree with this general sentiment. Mike White played a legit good game and that wasn't smoke and mirrors. And to whatever extent it was smoke and mirrors/not repeatable was on things like the Jets getting a horrendously lucky break on that helmet to helmet penalty, Ty Johnson managing to score on that sideline play where lets face it... that was lucky as hell he scored, and pretty much every razzle dazzle play working. At the core of it though Mike White looked like a seasoned NFL vet. I thought he ran the plays with authority and confidence and he took it right to a top notch NFL defense. To me a lot of those plays looked like the same crap the Jets have been running all season, the results were just better today. And to a large extent those better results were to his credit. His throws were decisive, well placed, and almost always seemed to be going to the best option available. I also watched both his post game interview on the field, the post game press conference, and his interactions with his teammates. I thought all of that looked extremely encouraging. You can't help but notice (even at the points were a win did not look likely) that other Jets players seemed to have a little extra enthusiasm and that he brings what appears to be a wonderful combination of quiet confidence and humility to his job and in the long run those things matter as far as sustainability. I've also been taking note over the last year that the Jets keep keeping him around at the expense of the fairly dependable Flacco and fairly promising Morgan. So he's been quietly cleaning out some not insignificant competition. I'm hardly proclaiming him Brady 2.0 or expecting 400 yards a game. But I will admit to being excited and hopeful.
flacco might be the most checked out disinterested veteran in the league. Reminds me of Vick when he came here. Signing him once was a mistake, trading for him egregious. Playing him after today would be criminal. trade him for literally anything if possible to minimize the mistake.
