I really do like and respect Westhoff. His special team saved the game (Punt block for TD and clutch FG). I really hope he doesn't retire after this season. Give him more money to stay.
Another big kick return from this unit. Let's recap. Week 1: Blocked punt for a TD that saved week 1 (and possibly our season considering how the last 3 games have went). And Folk makes a 53-yard field goal after offense can't move the ball more than 2 yards to make it easier. Week 2: Very few opportunities, but Cromartie averages 42.5 yards per return in 2 chances, no critical errors, and Folk is 3-3. Week 3: McKnight has a 50-yard kick return and Kerley has a 53-yard punt return. Cromartie makes stupid mistake, but I don't blame Westhoff. Week 4: McKnight kick return gives us some momentum and a chance before our offense screws it all up (again). Week 5: McKnight with an 88-yard kick return to set up a TD when the offense is struggling. 2 out of 5 weeks, special teams have scored points for us. 2 other weeks, there were long returns to set up easy scoring drives. And that doesn't even mention that we haven't had any critical coverage errors. Without Westhoff, we're 1-4, we don't make the playoffs in 2009, and who knows, maybe not last year either. Lifetime contract.
Mike Westhoff is a LIVING LEGEND http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/32695659 so is Joe Namath
In the beginning of the year Westhoff said he wanted to coach one more year. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2011/09/special-teams_coordinator_mike.html
If Schotty was as good at his job as Westhoff is at his, we'd be putting up thirty-five points a game.
