I totally agree with this. However, Manish was on with Benigno and Brandon Tierney today on WFAN and Manish was talking about how the Jets organization is really down on both Petty and Hackenberg. Now I understand it's Manish and anything he says must be taken with several grains of salt, but he is talking to people inside that building. There has to be some truth to what he's saying, no? This is really concerning to me, because if they are ready to already move on from Petty and Hackenberg, then that is a huge hit on MacCagnan & co.'s record of evaluating talent at the QB position. I'm getting worried.
His go to sources seem to be Fitzpatrick and Marshall. They're both good friends with each other. Of course they're going to trash the young quarterbacks where 1) took Fitz's job and 2) doesn't stare down Marshall and force feed him the ball like Fitz did. We'll know by this upcoming offseasons moves what the scouting department and executives really think of the two youngsters with what moves they make in the QB department.
I don't trust one word that hack Manish writes. If there is some truth to it, then my first question is who his source is. Is his source the custodian? An ugly secretary that Petty wouldn't boff? Is it that moron Woody, or is it the football people? I like Jonathan Vilma's suggestion that it could be Fitz or Marshall. I don't think it would be Marshall, as I don't see what he'd have to gain, but I could easily see it being Fitz. It could also be an intentional "leak" of misinformation.
Until I hear this assessment from Macc's mouth, I won't believe it. Aside from the fact that Manish is a hack and a liar, from what Petty has shown so far, I don't know how anyone could "give up" on him. If in fact, they have, then Macc and Bowles need to be fired.
The last thing we need is another project QB. Just sayin. Unless he's going to come in here and start right away.... Best thing to do is get another veteran to push Petty at camp. We have bigger problems on the team. Like the fact that half of our offensive line will be gone or breaking down.
What the hell would they be expecting from a second year QB drafted in the 4th round and making his 3rd start? He has shown improvement each week and seems to be doing everything asked of him. In my mind its 50/50 at this point that he becomes a very good starting QB in the NFL. 90% chance he becomes a very good backup. He is valuable and at this point seems to have been a good pick in the 4th round. If either QB is a bust, its Hack, but even that is unfair as noone knows what round he would have been drafted if the Jets didnt fall in love and he is a young guy 22 yo and still maturing and learning.
This is the most bullshit article I have read in awhile. Manish is so pathetic it's not even funny. If anyone remembers how hush-hush the Jets were with Hackenberg, no way anyone would know 1. Their thoughts on Petty/Hack right now. 2. Their interest in college QB's. It's a flat out embarrassing article and worse that other sites are running with it.
I don't want to draft a QB in this years draft no matter what. I don't know if Petty or Hack is going to turn out to be the guy, nor does anyone else, and we have lots of other needs. It doesn't matter how good your QB is if your line can't block. I'd like to see us heavily rebuild our O-line - that's where it all starts.
Its a Manish article and its December so I guess I would not put too much stock into it. He's a good prospect, but investing another high pick in a QB after taking Hackenberg last year seems like a waste of draft resources. Also Jets owe it to themselves and Hack to actually invest time and energy into developing him rather than just picking up another QB and acting as if the 2016 draft never happened.
Even if Manish wasn't a professional troll, do you really think the JETS (especially how Mac has been so far), or any serious team for that matter would be talking about their draft targets in December? A) bullshit B) smokescreen
Beggars can't be choosers... I salute anybody that will keep trying to find us a good QB I don't care where the QB gets drafted... No other GM's have tried... they would make one effort and give up after he flops. Petty was drafted in the 4th round so he has low expectations... hell he could be our back up for a long time. Hack has never had a shot yet so it's not giving up on him it's being cautious especially since he seems to be developing slow. If he wants playing time he'll have to earn it as he should... nobody should be gifted the starting job just because they were drafted high.
